S2000 collectability vs other imports
Hi guys. I just wanted to start some general conversation about your thoughts on the future collectability of our cars. I'm certain this topic has been broched before, but I'm specifically comparing my 2000 S to my buddies 300 z non turbo. He paid 17k for a 1992 in pretty good shape and 25k miles. I know it's not apples to apples, but I'd love to think prices will start to appreciate on our cars just as much if not more given the relatively short production run.
Believe it or not, from the limited research I've done, that price is actually in line with the condition and miles of the z car.
Any thoughts?

I think it's too early to judge how well the s2000 will appreciate. The one thing I know is the rare color combos and or low mileage examples are what's going to stand out of course. That's the reason why you can go buy a 98 cw integra type r for 12-15k with over 100k miles or spend 25k and up for a low mileage one.
I doubt our cars will ever achieve "collector" status, at least not with any investment value. Too many of them for starters. And I doubt many folks will just park them in their garages where collector cars reside.
You can buy '57 "collectible" Thunderbirds for under $50K. Maybe when the S2000 is 60 years old it'll have a corresponding price. That would be 2066 for my '06.

I think the S2000 will hit a basement on pricing in the next few years and then values will slowly creep up for well looked after cars.
I just sold my 95 Miata for nice amount more than I bought it for. It was not a super special car, but it was well looked after and clean. Those cars have become tougher to find.
Time will tell though, I don't see it as a great investment where you will double your money in 10 years time, but you may be able to sell it for a bit more than you paid.
