s2000 cr vs Cobalt ss
'08 Cobalt SS - 260 hp, 2975 lbs, 8:22 Nurburgring time
'00 S2000 AP1 - 240 hp, 2809 lbs, 8:39
'08 S2000 CR - 240+ hp, 2813 lbs, ??? time
Decide for yourself the validity of the above specs and times. And I cannot find any reference to any Nurburgring time for a CR.
Other cars in the 8:22 range or slower are the E46 M3, R32 Skyline GTR, Exige S, Cayman S...

We are all going to have to learn to speek chineze because of Toyota. The Cobalt SS is like an arrow... it goes fast, straight and true. Your country and the UAW needs you now. Go to your Chevy salesman now and by the Cobalt... you will be glad you did. Amerika, live it or live with it! Me, I like my Escort.
Toyota is a Japanese company.

Their you go case settled.
For all you Cobalt/Chevy haters, take a moment and go read a review of the lowly Cobalt SS. The new turbo variant not only makes more power and torque at lower RPM, GM has used a bit of innovative thinking and tapped the ABS/Stability Control electronics for a cheap way to get a FWD platform to simulate RWD behavior. I haven't driven one but I know someone who has. He was pleasantly surprised at how well the electronics can fool you into thinking you're piloting a RWD car. And the thing is fast! Straight line or twisties.
As for the quality differences well, you're talking a different price point. For what it is, the Cobalt SS ain't bad at it's price. But it's just cheaper than an S2000 in every way that counts. Suspension, fit n finish, materials, paint, seats, steering, OEM tires, etc.
If you can't afford an S2000 or simply want a cheap/fun car, the Cobalt may be just the ticket in a small coupe.

but with the prices of used S2000s these days, why would you?
actually, the '08 is getting decent reviews, I was thinking of the previous sc version

This is when we feel a twinge of sadness. The Cobalt SS has become a surprisingly cool car, but cool kids aren't going to give it a chance. The SS is stuck in a Cavalier-style body that just doesn't resonate with them. Poor interior packaging and down-market furnishings make it worse.
