the thing is not that it has a crapload of torque, it's the sudden huge increase in power in a very short period of time that kicks out the rear, combined with the light weight of the car and the lack of any computerized stability control (in pre-2006 models)

Self restraint is needed to not go fast, but not to control your car once you're already going fast. Just don't make stupid choices when you're driving and even a 17 year old will be fine driving a s2000.
I think where I'm getting at is that you guys are making the s2000 sound like a beast with too much power, and young drivers need to be careful not to step on the gas too much or he'll crash or something.

if you are concerned with space, the S2k is not for you. I DD my car everyday, put 20,000 miles on her last year. Even the GF dont complain about space (because she loves the car too) and she happily put all the stuff on her lap.
speaking of space, you be amazed what fits in the car when the top comes down. I use to fit my Trek in the passenger seat before i got a bike rack. I can also fit my 7 ft surf board in the passenger seat when the top is down.
