my dad taught me... on an 89 subaru stationwagon that wouldn't idle. was definantly a learning experience, and when I have kids, they're going to learn as well.
I hate driving automatics. with a manual you feel like one with the car, like you have so much more control over it. not too mention they're so much more fun!

i was going to say this was a repost, but either way. both my parents know how to drive manual and neither of them want one. my friends taught me how to drive manual in several cars. i picked up the s and wasnt even sure i was ready to drive manual on my own. i made it home only stalling once on a hill. a few month later my cousin got his first manual without knowing how to drive. his father picked me up, we picked up his car, and i taught him when he got home.
its no surprise to me that the advances made for automatic are getting greater and greater. the point is to reduce lap times. and without man made errors it can be done. although im against it, it seems that the world is getting lazier and this is just the easiest way out. im sure by a certain time manual transmission will be a thing of the past.

i don't feel like formula one style paddle shifters can really be called automatic. i always said i would never drive anything without a clutch. then i drove a 2007 gallardo. wow, shifting that fast is an awesome feeling. i think paddle shifters definitely have their place.
My dad taught me how to drive a stick when I was 14. Then my mom taught me again when I was 16.
On the first driving day of driver's ed, I go picked to drive first in my group. The teacher told me to just pull up to the light at the entrance to the parking lot and make a right. I just sat there looking at the dash witht the keys in the ignition, and she said "What are you waiting for?". I told her that I didn't know how to start the car and asked if I needed to press any of the pedals before turning the key and she laughed at me and asked if I had ever driven a car before. I told her that I had only driven stick shifts, and that this was my first time in an automatic, and to take it easy on me.
