There will be a time when the computerized autos will be better than even the best drivers, and when NASCAR or F-1 converts (and if the autos improve track times they WILL eventually switch), you may see the left pedal disappear even in Ferraris and (shudder) S-2000s (if the S-2000 is still in production at that time). Fun is fun, but faster is faster, and safer is safer. Can't stop "progress"....if that happens, then we'll all have to drive vintage cars.

A true sports car should be a stick, though you can't argue with the performance benefits of all these crazy new double-clutch/SMG-like gearboxes. Nice how F1 stuff trickles down. :-)
The standard tranny will never be gone forever because there will always be guys like us who will only buy stick for good reason. If there is a demand then they will be available for sale. Although choices will be limited.

but, the FASTEST cars will be auto in the future. but because I am not a racer.

That's good to know. Now I know where I will buy my car if the the standard dies in America.

I taught myself stick 20 years ago now. My DD has to be automagic, though, because the wife can't drive stick.

Just saw this add on craigslist:

"Want to Buy Honda S2000

I am looking for a Honda S2000.
Needs to be white and have a clean title.
Prefers manual.
Spending limit is $10,000."

I should convince this guy to come drive my automatic S2000, LOL!!

[QUOTE=91excoupe,Oct 30 2008, 10:47 PM] I will never own a sports car with an automatic.

makes me sad that most of the super cars are opting for the F1 gearboxes..

when people see a sports car they wanna see that elbow action!
not a flick of the fingers to the audi R8 which is one of the few very beautiful and fast super cars that have the F1 gearbox as an option along with a 6 speed manual
