^ I left out the parts about the middle of the night and only one on the road but thanks for bringing that point up. I only had the balls to keep a sustained speed like that on I-5 in that spot because I learned it from someone who had done it regularly and it came with the idea that out there no one cares how fast you go when you are the only one there and a story about another fellow who was going about the same speed and a cop overtook him while blaring on the PA: You really should slow down!

And for those who don't know the stretches of I-5 where you could do this they are literally straight patches of road all the way out to the horizon in front of you in the middle of no where. At night you can see an oncoming car at least a minute or two before you'd meet up with it. The cops going past are going so fast you barely have time to see their headlights in the rearview mirror to slow down.

The freeway hasn't changed and there's still hours of nothing between Los Angeles to Sacramento and then Sacramento all the way to the northern border but cops attitudes have changed. Before the national speed limit was imposed at 55 California only had a "speeding" crime of violating the basic speed law, which was driving too fast to be safe for conditions. After the national speed limits went into effect California was forced to create new crimes related to specific vehicle speeds and while I think the basic speed law is still on the books it's been superseded by hard limits on all roads even though the national speed limit has been (I believe) removed. I think we were lucky enough to catch the tail end of cops who still believed in the basic speed law.

It's a shame too because the miles really tick off fast at 110 mph.

I sincerely think they need to stop giving Driver's Licenses out to everyone who applies. Make it strict like in some parts of Europe, where people actually fret that they won't pass.

I think there should also be a graduated license based on your skill and car. Supercars, left lane! Priuses, Camrys, Corollas, GTFO.

Depends on the area you're in/people you come in contact with. It can go both ways.

[QUOTE=JS2k.com,Oct 13 2010, 08:32 AM] I visited SD and LA for HC2. People in California drive like total ****ers. No one knows how to get out of the left lane, everyone cuts you off at the last minute, everyone switches lane like they're an 18 year old speed racer wannabe, if you pass someone, they will go faster than you
Driving was actually stressful there.

Actually I agree with the OP. In my celica people would just be total ass hats about cutting me off or trying to race.

When I go out in the s I try to wear a collered shirt or something nice, I don't drive like an asshole either, and people seem to give me plenty of space, especially when on a hill or something, they always sit far enough back that in a worst case 1st gear start I would roll back without hitting them. People will let me pass as long as I don't tailgate them first. Granted in Fairfax City there are 911's every other block so I guess people respect cars since everyone here is loaded.
