Where I live S2000s and other convertibles are pretty common (Miatas, Boxsters, etc.). I don't think anyone really takes notice of the S2000 one way or another.
I agree.....around here M3s, Porsches...etc are all over the road. So are the idiots. Lots of tailgators amongst other idiots. It confounds me that the operator of a 4500 lb suv has no clue that he can't stop anywhere near as well as a sports car and tailgates it.

From Japan:

It's only a s2000...despite the few that are running around on the streets, they are usually unmodded and just another car. Jackassery always occurs around me no matter what car I'm in.

For the most part, i've had very positive experiences. I get compliments often, which is bizarre since an s2k is rarely the flashiest car on the road in DC.

I get the most attention from old men. They seem to appreciate the minimalist aspect of the s2k. It may not be the most desirable or most anticipated attention, but hey it's something!

Speaking of a**holes on the road, I have the most problems with PRIUS drivers. No common sense, no courtesy, erratic lane changes, either going 20 above or below the speed limit, and just a general lack of decency. Yes, I understand that you think hybrids are saving the planet, but the point is mute when you are flooring it off every stop light or causing massive traffic jams when you go 40 in a 55 (so then everyone is wasting gas). Plus, I have been flicked off twice by PRIUS drivers this year. Both were older men and both occurred in a parking garage! I'm actually an environmental scientist AND have never received a moving violation in my life... I just don't see why I could have such bad luck with these hybrid driving "saints"

I've also noticed a lot of Prius owners drive like idiots.

That's hilarious that two of them flipped you off in parking garages. I'd love to hear the stories behind those incidents.

I've noticed that most people drive slower around me when I drive the S2000. I drive either speed limit or a bit less, and it seems uncommon for someone to speed past me too often; however, when I drive my fiance's Benz or even her Cobalt, people seemingly whiz by me even if I'm going over the speed limit (not by much, though )

Haha here are the stories:

1st one is at a Target in suburban Maryland (the target by my house in DC is horrendous so I will go out 270 to a more civilized one). I love Target for the picture frames and really cheap generic Nicorette, but anyways.... I am heading back to my car and have loaded everything into the truck. Get in, look around to make sure no one wants my spot, then get in the car. Then I decide to load up something interesting from my ipod for the long ride home on the highway (takes about 30 seconds tops). Apparently, while I was doing this, a man in a cherry red prius had gingerly approached my spot and was literally out of my sight. Since he is driving electric at parking garage speeds, I didn't hear him approach. I check often if someone is waiting for me, but he literally was out of site and behind an SUV. there was no way to know!

When I pull out of the spot, I spot him and hes starring at me like I just took his daughter's virginity. I wave and say "sorry I didn't see you waiting for me". He says nothing but flicks me off and speeds into the spot almost hitting a woman unloading groceries into a car adjacent to the spot I just pulled out of. Incredible.

The other instance was a pretty simple one. I was approaching the exit of the garage from one angle, while a light blue PRIUS was approaching from another angle. I did not have a stop sign, but they did. It was an enormous stop sign; it was also written on the pavement. I can tell automatically that this PRIUS is not going to stop (I anticipate such behavior from them) but I continue on anyway to prove a point (ready to slam on the brakes when they go through the stop sign). It plays out just like that, and they honk at me. I yell "you had a stop sign", and again... I just get flipped off.

If you really want to get me going, talk about bicyclists in DC. I love the idea of bicyclists, but they do not obey the laws. One of them ran a red light and almost hit me. He then tried to follow me into my neighborhood and said from his bike "I have a family you could have killed me. I will skullf&^% you!". He was dead serious and I am being completely honest right now. I ignored him as he seemed genuinely sick in the head; those kinds of people are either all talk or really dangerous loose canons... I didn't care to find out which. The bicyclists are the new object of all my hatred, aside from parking enforcement.

Ok, I'm done venting for now

^ Awesome post! Damn, so many bad and inconsiderate drivers on the road. It the idiocy does seem to be magnified in parking lots.

I know what you mean about the bikers. I always give them plenty of space when I pass them, and I make a point not to accelerate hard past them so it doesn't startle them, etc. Basically I just try to be considerate as I would hope to be treated if I find myself on a bike. I agree with the concept of sharing the road, but too many bikers don't seem to realize that the courtesy should go both ways.

Same! I try to be courteous and sensible to the bicyclists. I don't cut them off, edge them off the road, and I will stay behind them if it is unsafe to pass. I'm just amazed at how aloof they can be; if I were ever riding a slow, fully exposed human-powered vehicle around large, 2-ton machines piloted by degenerates, I would be careful to the point of being neurotic.
