Uh...Yeah...I think it was a mistake to post pics of the prototype glovebox...I'll post pics again when it's done!

Cmon Guys,
It is a prototype - A prototype is just for function - I am sure that the final fit and finish will be worthy of our interiors! Great Job!!!!

Everyone appears to be getting very very confused. Please read my above thread carefully. As I stated in the above message. This is MY prototype...I built it by hand to give us an idea of if it would work and how well. I am bringing it to the lasercutters tomorrow to get professionally cadded up and lasercut. As stated above...in this process all edges will be rounded off which will improve it's look and functionality. Please be patient to see the final product. I assure you it will look as good as my VAFC radio doors in the end.

I haven't gotten a final quote from the laser cutter yet but original estimates were anywhere between $200 and $300. It is looking like the price will be much closer to the $200 figure. I will know more when we have a completed prodcut by weeks end.

Some may be interested in a "stealth model" without a knob/lock/key on the front. Maybe one that you can just push on, and it will click/release so everything still looks like a stock panel from the front. I'd like that myself.

This was the original intention of the glovebox but after designing this model we were very unhappy. These types of latches have a difficult time supporting the weight of the glovebox that is upsidedown and we felt weren't a feasible long term solution. We are still working on this but it is turning out to bear near impossible since the glovebox is facing down. Thanks for the suggestion though...you do have a valid point

Have you considered a simple plastic type sliding latch. Something on the order of the ones used for a variety of "AA" battery storages. The principal is the same as the one you show but they don't project outward.
