Long story short the weather in Chicago has been great this winter so a few of my friends decided to go for a cruise. I took my s2000 out from hibernation and my buddy hopped in with me. He is a bigger guy...i wanna say 250 plus lbs. Car was running great while cruising. when we got on the highway i got on it and i seriously thought the car had some problems. This thing was going nowhere and keep in mind im boosted at 461whp. I did another pull a little later to check my afr and boost. Everything checked out and it kinda ruined the drive as i was wondering what was wrong. In the back of my mind i did think it could be the weight but i had a hard time believing it was that much of a difference.
When i got to the garage and every one left i looked under the hood and everything was normal. So i went for a spin alone and i gotta say it felt like a train. Its a night and day difference. I was glad to know the car is just fine.lol.......anyone else have a similar experience or notice a difference with a heavy passenger? I guess thats one downside of having no torque.
So you are meaning to tell me that you feel like you have no torque in your 461 whp S2000 and that on a simple higher speed highway pull (where weight matters the least) you felt the difference of 250 lbs. I find that very hard to believe.
I person who really notices how their car responds could notice the extra weight for sure. But, for it to "ruin" you drive? Come on.....

Yes it did kind of ruin it because i wanted to get home to see if anything was wrong. Honestly you get used to power really quick. Im already looking to make more next season.

It sounds like some people haven't been around cars much. Really hot days also kill power.

Nothing personal....really.

But you should have been more like knocking yourself in the head that you didn't immediately realize why you felt you had reduced power.

I had the same situation as zeroptzero above. After months of study and making a massive list of all the things to take on an epic journey to the Dragon, I loaded up and then realized you can't. I didn't make it out of my neighborhood with fenders scraping on tires. Back home and had to do a massive strip. Also, every single thread, on any and all S2K forum out there that discusses this subject goes nearly immediately to comments about heavy girls which is just unacceptable and immature.

Neither this thread, nor any of my study of spare tools, equipment, etc. brought to the fore what is in your owner's manual. The maximum weight limit a S2000 can carry is 400 lbs. It even states it on the door panel. This is passengers and luggage combined.

I'm a very fit, middle-aged, hard-core cyclist at 6' with 195 lbs weight without shoes or clothes (leg muscles weigh a lot) and my wife is same age so not a waif. We are, therefore, nearly at the limit with nothing else in the car!

Be realistic and consider everything. At the time, I had a Full Race turbo set-up which added tens of pounds even with the lightweight exhaust. I have a killer stereo with heavier magnets on my speakers plus a JL Stealthbox subwoofer. Guess what, after I unloaded the car on that Dragon trip, I lifted, unhooked and removed the subwoofer. It weighs 42 pounds!!! That 2000+ mile trip was done with really lame-ass tunes, no sub. On that subject, if you have an OEM hardtop, that is 44 pounds. Have you removed your heavy factory seats for lighter aftermarket ones, that can recover a few pounds.

So, weigh you and your GF or bro fully clothed. Add up all the added aftermarket gear on your car, stereo, top, seats, etc. Only then will you realize that you cannot take more than one extra of anything (shoes, sweater, hoodie, coat) in your luggage and that you probably cannot pack a case of wine, case of beer and bottle of bourbon! Oh yeah, and AAA it is, I ditched the spare too, wouldn't clear the BBK front anyway. I do carry a plug kit and can of fix-a-flat and a light scissor jack.

Heck I've noticed the difference when I fill up the tank with gas.

Along the same lines, there is maybe a 5mm suspension height variation between a full fuel tank and an empty fuel tank, approximately. I know my rear driver side suspension drops 10mm when I get into the vehicle, the other corners also drop but now as much.

Could we please rename this post? Something like "S2000 and extra weight". Calling a passenger heavy is offensive. Rotational mass is the most important mass you should worry about on the S2000. You can't fit that much stuff into the rest of it.

The initial discussion did not refer to passengers as being heavy. It was suggested that any passenger weight is too much, but it would be hard to suggest that to your significant other as they may take it the wrong way and you can never come out of a discussion like that looking good.

Okay Mr Smith, so what's the current politically correct term? More than average?
