S2000 insurance
I am really interested in trading my RSX-S in for a 04 S2000 but was scared of the insurance. Well God must love me or maybe they aren't that much but I was quoted $1300/6month for insurance. That is only about $150 more then I pay now on the RSX-S. It comes down to about $215/month. Now, for why this is unbelieveable, I am 18 yrs old, no wrecks, no tickets, and am a student. That seems extremely low to me. Anyone else my age care to share or comment? Now for the question, should I trade my '03 ABP RSX Type-S with 15k miles in on a brand new '04 yellow or red S2000 with hardtop? I work at a Honda dealership so I get a pretty hefty discount. It is so tempting but this is my every day car so I have to consider that.
I had about 4 or 5 cars on my list that I was considering, and whittled them down one by one. I've wanted an S2000 for a long time, but never thought that the price of the car + insurance would be practical for me. It was based off of this that I had decided on the RSX-S. I called the insurance company and got quotes on all of the cars, and asked about the S2000 just for the hell of it.
I was floored when the quote for the S2000 came back at 150 per month while the RSX was 165 or so a month. This is one of the main reasons that I started to get serious about the S2000. I am 26, live in AZ (where insurance is outrageous due to proximity to Mexico), and have a pretty clean record. They were nice enough to count me as married since I've been living with my girlfriend for the past two years.
The only reason I could think of for this, is people who buy the S2000 probably tend to be a little older, and more careful with their cars.

Mine is a little less then 1200 every 6th months, but I still have an accident on my record that won't get removed until this summer. And I'm 22.

Be careful in the S....when I was 18 I bought a '00 Trans-am WS6 and lots traction on a wet road taking it into a ditch for a claim of over 15K. There is a significant difference between FWD and the RWD of the S.

Yeah, I didn't think I could afford one because I did believe the insurance was going to be atleast $300/month if not more. I really don't think my payments would be any more but it would just be like starting over with my RSX-S only I'd be a proud owner of a S2000.
Yes I do realize the difference between the FWD and RWD. I have driven a RWD car before but it was a '04 Stang GT. It was different but you have to have commen sense when driving. Oh well, I gotta get myself a test drive in the S2000.

even if the quote is low for the first six, be prepared for a rate increase should anything change... as in moving violations, bad credit score, new performance surcharges or a general nose dive in the risk pool that you are in.
did you get a firm quote or an "over-the-phone, no-strings-attached" guesstimate from your insurer?
also, please, since this will be your daily driver, budget for snow tires.

It was over the phone, but what she did was take out the car I am currently driving and put the S in place of it on my plan and looked at the result so I would believe that that would be pretty accurate. Yes, the price could always go up, but that goes with any car. I have aftermarket wheels that would hopefully fit and would probably wrap the stock tires in snow tires. Does that really make a huge difference? I've never driven in snow with snow tires.
insurance rates for the S seem to increase in a non-linear fashion, ie not 3 or 5% annually. i just wanted to point out that just because you've been given a low quote now, doesn't mean that in six or 12 months you couldn't be facing a huge insurance bill. i'd give the insurer a vin, before you sign a purchase agreement. a firm, written quote would be a good thing considering the verbal quote they are giving you.
i'm not sure how the stock tires are on the '04's but the s-02 tire on the earlier MY's are not suited for even cold weather driving, much less snow covered roads. this car is light, rear wheel drive, with wide wheels, a high-powered engine and summer only tires... a terrible combination for 4 season driving.
