Default S2000 Intake Help which to buy?

Hi,

Just bought my s2000, the best car i have ever had!!

Just need some expert help on which intake i should buy.

i have heard the AEM V2 are good but for £250!! is it worth it?

I have taken the lid off already but i wanted something more; getting rid of the plastic box.

Any ideas will be a big help

Cheers

What is the reason you are wanting to upgrade the intake? If it's only for power, I would just save your money. If it's for looks and sound, then it would be a good choice. Also something to consider, people have hydrolocked their engine with a CAI while driving through puddles and such, so just be aware of that. That's the main reason I have a short ram intake, I will never have to worry about it. Also imo CAI don't look good in the engine bay since it leaves that whole space open. A very popular intake for our S is the K&N FIPK and it looks great, sounds great, and might give a couple ponies.

I have read about that water problem with the long ram's, might have to check out CAI with short ram, was going to leave it stock and just have a carbon fibre snorkel but they are not cheap, look nice tho.

Cheers

Yeah you might want to do a little more research about intakes on the S before you pull the trigger on one. Go to the Naturally Aspriated section here and look in the Sticky of common topics, then go to the Official Intake Thread. I've had like 4 different intake set-ups already, and noticed no big difference except for sound between all of them. I also wouldnt modify the OEM airbox, I modded the hell out of mine with everything possible and there was no difference except for looks pretty much, and might have helped a little with the heatsoak when sitting still but that's it. Snorkels are worthless imo also since they pinch down really thin and hurt airflow more than improving it. If anything get an AUT cooling plate. It will make it look a lot cleaner and will go with your OEM airbox perfectly. Also if you ever upgraded intakes you can still use the cooling plate.

Go read this, if this intake does what its inventor says it does(13+ HP) you should try to get one from him.

Yeah 13whp isn't going to happen with just an intake. You're considered lucky to get 13 whp from an intake, exhaust, tp, and a header all together. Usually they won't give you hardly any gains unless you have some kind of tune, that then by the time you got all the bolt ons and a good tune to get MAYBE 25whp extra, you would be halfway to a nice turbo kit or supercharger.

Thanks everyone, it's hard picking/buying the right one, it needs to look good but also not do more harm then good. The thing I have found when you take the lid off the air filter makes a whining sound.

Have you read any of the existing intake threads? There's nothing that I've seen in this one that would make it any different from any of its countless predecessors.
