ok. im all confused. if you want to launch quick, why would you want your tires to spin? dont you want them to hook off the line? i by NO means a drag racer and ill admit i suck at lauching. i usually just rev up, release cluth to the sweet spot and when the light turns green i let off the clutch in a gradual, yet quick motion.
You the tire to spin a little to reduce the impact against the diff. if not, all the power is going to hit the diff and have nowhere to go and put added strain.
that is my understanding of it..
the few times i've launched, i've done it at 6-6.5 rpm and let the clutch fly (drop my foot right off to the side) and always had a great launch (wheel spin, clean take off, no burn smell)

An easy, four-step plan to a great launch:

1) Find an extra-large, heavy-duty rubber band.
2) Stretch it between two telephone poles on opposite sides of the street.
3) Put the car in reverse, and slowly back up against the rubber band. Stretch it to the point where you can just hold the car back using the brakes.
4) Put the car in neutral, and release the brake pedal. Voila!

Or, if you're a sissy, do it the "rev up the engine and drop the clutch" way.

you will get off the line faster AND have a faster time if you launch with some wheelspin.

if you just bog or just "go" you will run actually a MUCH slower time. if you don't believe me, feel free to go test it at a track and you will notice your 60' (60 foot) time and your ET will be much slower without a proper launch.

if you get the tires to spin, you DO have some traction, and what's happening is you have the car in it's power band, so it's providing the most power, moving the car forward, and getting the car out of the hole quicker.

The trouble is that the S2000 clutch, with a "gradual, yet quick" release and lots of throttle, won't grip. It will just slip like crazy, making a great stink, while the car goes nowhere. (This doesn't seem to result in permanent damage if done only once.)

Listen to wisconsin.

This inst an awd car. You have to be carefull what you recomend to people. Slipping a stock cluth in this car is a very bad idea. Youd should always launch obove 6k rpm for "normal" conditions in this car. You need a little tire spin so there is no strees on the rear end. If you keep launching like that something will go eventually.
dude you obviously never race legally, at the strip. slipping the clutch is the only way to launch the car and get a decent 60'. i slip on at the strip and get 2.1 60 all day. my current best is 13.96@100.2.

you could glaze the clutch enough that it may not fully recover, and can wear out or fail much sooner.

that is a very very bad habit to get into, you'll muller your clutch and damage the box too, I've heard of quite a few yanks that do that as they're not used to driving stick. It's not good at all
The following is just way too funny:
