the rpm you launch at will vary with conditions. it takes practice and a feel for the car to determine this. you should get roughly 2 seconds of wheelspin. if you're getting more than that, you can either lower your rpm launching speed, or you can feather the gas slightly after dumping the clutch.

either way, once the tires stop spinning and hook up, your rpms should be right at 6000rpm. see the thread in my sig for a video of a good launch.

Of course we 'yanks' know how to drive a stick. What kind of b.s. comment is that?

Try and use a more friendly term for us other than 'yanks' next time and enough of the superiority attitudes....

I am not into launching cars, but have done it a couple of times, if you bring the rpm's up to 6K and really drop the clutch, the tires will spun like crazy and not go anywhere.

I'd take the advice of not doing it to most people on this board, especially if money is going to be tight if something breaks.

I was quite suprized, and am not going to do it again, but it was fun, if it wasn't my car. I don't see the point of launching the car unless it's been set up dedicated for this purpose. Why potentially ruin your car when this car isn't that fast off the line to start with?

so wisconsin and others... i understand what your saying about letting the wheel spin... but on a dragstrip... where its designed to get much better traction than a street, im guessing i should be launching it at even higher rpm's than on the street...? to get the wheelspin? what rpm do you suggest? go up to 7000? im on stock AP1 tires/clutch and this is in FL humidity... i wanna do whats least stressful on the differential ...

thanks.

it all really depends on a lot of things. Track conditions, weather, tire condition, tire psi, etc etc.....the only way to really tell is like wisconsin said, start at 6k, if you get too much wheel spin then either lower your launch rpm or feather the gas (not clutch). If you don't get enough (bog) then raise your rpms. no two tracks are the same, no to cars are the same. the only way to tell for sure is to just go out and experiment.

the car is capable of 2.0 60' and possibly even 1.9 60' times off the line with a proper launch. that's just as fast as most any other RWD car. so to say this car isn't that fast off the line is quite honestly just plain incorrect.

The car magazines put the 0-60 times at like 5.6 or something, fast has to be well under 5 seconds in my book without driving like you want to break it. I am sure you have surpassed the car mag's times, but my butt dyno says this isn't an Evo, STi or 911. The fact that the clutch is so weak, says where Honda intended and spent their budget on. It's much more a car to go fast when already moving.
