I know it has already had more shop time than the last six or seven new cars I owned COMBINED.

What tells you more about the car is that I am still happy I have one. But trouble free it is not.

I second that Chris. I can't remember the last car I bought that spent more time at the dealer than this one. And I can remember a couple of Chrysler products.
I like the car but...
I guess when all you buy is Honda's your use to it?

perhaps it's comparing this car to other Hondas - or perhaps it's simply the difference between model year one and model year two but my car's been running like a champ.

then again - perhaps i got lucky (grin).

A Lemon?

Far from that!

This car is so far beyond it's years in advanced development that a "few" problems reported by a "concentrated sample" of the owner population should not discourage you.

The tranny problems are solved! The oversteer is a "pilot" and tire wear problem.

The base stereo speakers "suck".

The seatbelt sensors are not a problem in '01.

What's stopping you?

May I hop in here? My car has made 1 visit to the dealer for the seat belt recall. Even with some track abuse, i have not had any other problems. I attempted to get my small amount of transmission rumble fixed, but nothing is broken, and I can actually barely hear it over the HKS exhaust anyway.

It appears some people got unluckier versions (cdelena)? My father has had Zero problems with his too. He now has 5k miles on it.

After over a year and 13k miles, I have been very fortunate to not have experienced any of the major problems mentioned in this forum; however, I share some of the little niggling problems such as the top latches rattles, etc. Sure, the plastic rear window is a pain, but with a little care it will last. I don't even mind the radio. My experience (so far) has been pleasant; are there things I would change? Yes, but overall I'm as happy with this car as any I've ever owned.

I must be one of the "lucky" ones too.
16,000 hard miles including 3 autocrosses and zero problems.
You want to count the rear window as a reliability issue? And a recall on a boot cover hardly anyone uses anyway?
As far as I know the S2000 has ONE serious problem: 2nd gear grind on 2000 models.
I don't have the problem, but some do. Honda has also issued a fix for the problem.
Even this problem never left anyone stranded on the side of the road, did it?
Some have also complained of peeling paint although I don't have that problem either.

A 2001 model will not have the tranny grind problem, and the boot cover and seatbelt problems have been fixed as well.

You really cannot take a mass market car like an Accord and use it to compare the problem rate on a limited production high performance car.

As I have said before, name one high performance roadster that is as reliable overall as the S2000.
Corvette? Ha, Ha, Ha.
Porsche Boxster........KaBoom!!
BMW M Roadster ---- No Way
Audi TT 225-----8itch please.

By the way, Ferrari doesn't have such a stellar record either. If it lunches an engine, I'm sure a replacement could cost more than the MSRP on a stook.
