To me, saying that the S2000 is losing ground is like saying that an MGA or E-Jag, or even an F-40, has lost ground. Cars that give drivers a unique driving experience can't lose ground unless the driving experience they offer becomes commonplace. The S2000 is as much fun to drive today as it was in 1999, it's still competative on tracks and autocross courses, and it still offers a very unique driving experience, and a bargain basement price. The car has moved more toward the mainstream with additions like a clock and glass rear window, but the driving experience is still quite unique and very enjoyable.
I guess the way I see it, any car that offers a very unique driving experience (that is fun or enjoyable) establishes a class of one, and in a class of one it is not possible to lose ground.
I know at least one national level autocrosser who thinks my S2000 is more responsive (on autocross courses) than the GT3 she drove in the Natinals, so I certainly don't feel that my car is losing any ground.

The S2000 dominated B-Stock until it was bumped up to A-Stock, where it remains competative. Seems to me that it is holding it's own, on all fronts, quite well.
Put the same rubber on the S2000 that comes on the GT3 (Sport Cups) and the S2000 is transformed.

it's pretty awesome the there are 2 Hondas in the "America's Best Handling Car" feature in Motor Trend. i'm so grateful to have owned and daily driven both of them as well!

"this Honda 2-seater still has the best gearbox in the business. This direct-linkage 6-speed unit

Was driving around with my wife yesterday. She smiled and said: "It's going to be hard to replace this car, isn't it?"

Mods listed above. As a stock vehicle, the S2000 is moving into the territory the Miata held for so long. Not the fastest thing out there, but FUN and with its own distinct character.
With some mods, there's not much in the same segment until you get north of $60,000... (Exige S, Boxster / Cayman S, GT3)
It's some of the most street-legal fun you can have out there!
Still one of the most entertaining drives I've ever had!

I was going to make the point about the driver, but thought I might get flamed. I'm suer he is a very good driver, but's hard to move between 8 cars in 1 or 2 days. He might be more accustomed to driving a certain way which better with some of the other vehicles.
And brake fade on an S2000 just doesn't seem right...
