I was going to make the point about the driver, but thought I might get flamed. I'm suer he is a very good driver, but's hard to move between 8 cars in 1 or 2 days. He might be more accustomed to driving a certain way which better with some of the other vehicles.
And brake fade on an S2000 just doesn't seem right...

I got brake fade with OEM brake fluid and OEM pads on Laguna Seca as well. There's 3 really hard braking points on that track, the fastest one is going downhill after a huge straight (I reached almost 110 before braking a few times), it's not hard to believe at all. Needless to say, better brake fluid and pads, no fade for 40+laps on the day.

No flaming. But Max Angelleli is an INCREDIBLE driver. I thought about that too, saying maybe he got used to another car, but 1:50.7xx is no joke on Laguna Seca with a stock s2k, trust me...that's FAST.

Here's a great list of Hockenheim and Nordschleife lap times for lots of cars, including the S2000. NB, another test in the same magazine (Sport Auto, a slightly Porsche-biased, but very very thorough German rag) puts the S2000 at 1:18.2 in Hockenheim.

You can sort the list by column by clicking on the headers.
Hockenheim is more an indicator for handling, while the Nordschleife, despite it's many curves, does favor big power - Supercars see 180+ mph on the long straight.

its not god's chariot guys, theres always going to be a faster car out there.
About the brakes though, its weak that our rear rotors aren't even vented.
ok - I am sure someone else said (all) this already:
1) Handles like a roller coaster
2) Nimblest in its class
3) Bang for the buck (Well, It is!!)
4) Top down
Additionally, S2K's greatest edge, IMO: It truely becomes your baby - It is as rewarding as your driving skills - Push it hard and push it right, You will truely be rewarded. Mess it up, it will never forgive you ;-)
Cheers!!
