I had a set of these last me 800 miles on my STi. Two trips to the track and back.

I came into the S game a bit late, got a left over '05 in '06. I love the car, I drove quite a number of the current crop of roadsters before deciding on the S. Everything everyone else loves about it is why I have it but....you have to keep in mind that Honda set the bar w/the S2k (at least A bar) in 1999, no significant changes have been made to the car since '04, and some would argue those were not 'significant' changes. For some reason Honda decided that the car was good 'as is' whereas a lot of other companies continually upgrade and refine a chassis until it's death, one reason being to hit the bar or surpass it. So as the S2k has been idle newer chassis have hit the market w/an eye on the 'lil Honda, or just to become the next hot ride. There's a ton of R&D going on right now and unfortunately the S chassis is not included in that research.
While it is still very competative and very much the visceral experience we all enjoy so much, it is getting long in the tooth and I would actually be dissapointed if the competition couldn't come up with something that would run w/or out run our S given the amount of time they've had to develop.
All this takes nothing from the S, just like an old Dino, you may be able to outrun it but does the guy behind the wheel care??

there are 1) paper tigers
and there are 2) great cars

thats why i dont read car magazines, or pay attention to numbers that people throw around

every single time i sit in the car, i think "wow, it drives so great". are there many cars that can do that? can anyone put a price on that?

Sorry, you are correct. The point I meant to convey is that the only person who's times I care about in the S is me. Everyone else is irrelevent.

Righto

I would also imagine that the S is like no other car a great many of us has owned, I've never owned an F430 or a Gillardo, or even a Lotus or a 911 but I do own a car that gives me that same oneness with the road that Super/Prestige cars give they're owners (though I'm getting pretty interested in the Porsche CS). Of course everything is subjective, I myself am still quite enamored by the S however I won't close my eyes to the other great cars out there, and there are a few. Ideally we'd all be able to buy all the cars we dream about and put them in a warehouse but realistically we do what we can to get the what we need out of our driving experiences.

I read the article as well...

Still, I would rather drive the S over the Mazda3.

Let it lose ground. I still smile everytime I drive mine...
Couldn't agree more. Go tell an Austin Healey owner that their 40-year old car is outdated, and see if they give a rip. Character doesn't age.

With some mods, there's not much in the same segment until you get north of $60,000... (Exige S, Boxster / Cayman S, GT3)

It's some of the most street-legal fun you can have out there!

Still one of the most entertaining drives I've ever had!
We're so pleased with the four cars we own that we don't plan on replacing any of them, unless one of them gets destroyed somehow. Over the years we've sold or traded away far too many great cars only to regret it later, especially when the prices started to soar, so we'll keep the S2000 just as we've kept the MX5. Given the condition of the two cars, selling either one at this point would actually be pretty stupid, given their book values.

LOL, I may be buried in the S2000.

Every time I look at this picture, I cringe. RUST!!!

My car still looks like new underneath, and seeing that rust makes me sad.
