Do you guys think a good exhaust note is designed or engineered, or simply that of untapped engine workings?

The intake noise of the S2000 is good. The stock exhaust tone is pretty bland, in my opinion.

S2000 with aftermarket exhaust sounds AMAZING. Sounds so beefy and sexy. Stock exhaust... eh.

S2000 with aftermarket exhaust AND intake sounds like it's ripping a hole in the time/space fabric.

That's exactly what comes to mind when I hear the loping sound once I cross-over into vtec land.

What I'd like to know is how to get an LFA-like sound out of my car. without '9000RPM V10 transplant' being the answer

I noticed this the other day. The stock exhaust on an Si is actually audible.

The only time I ever notice my exhaust is when I'm cruising at freeway speeds, it has a nice little purr but that's about it. Next summer I'm gonna invest in a Fujitsubo. That's what it SHOULD have sounded like from the factory. Oh well.

For a 4 cylinder, the exhaust note is pretty awesome. It sounds better than some V6s and V8s.

I've never liked the Nissan/Infinity VQ exhaust notes. You expect something awesome when it first starts to rev up, but doesn't fulfill what it promises as you go higher in the powerband.
