S2000 named for year not displacement?
No flames please, but since so many people are getting worked up over the possibility of the 2004 model being a 2.2 liter and the name still being S2000, I just had to wonder if everybody is correct in the naming convention.
The assumption is that the S2000 was named for its 2.0 liter, but are we certain it wasn't named because it was released as a year 2000 model car? If so, that makes the whole argument pointless.
Personally, I don't see why anybody is bent over the naming convention anyway and arguing for it to be renamed an S2200
I'm just wondering if anybody has documentation to substantiate the basis for this controversy.

"The S2000 designation refers to the 2.0-liter displacement, not the model year in which it will go on sale in North America, Japan, Europe and Asia "

Guess that settles that
