S2000 out of state purchase
Time to rejoin the S2000 club. Just in time for the absurdly nice Austin driving weather.
I'm obsessed with having a relatively immaculate S2000, and I found one in Georgia.
We settled on a price that's a few thousand above NADA. I was hoping to spend less, but the market has matured a lot since I bought my last one ~4 years ago.
Is it foolish to have this thing shipped without inspecting it? With under 20k miles and not a spot of rash on the rims, it seems like it couldn't have any problems. The dealership took like 60 pictures and it's been for sale for months, but the sales guy wasn't really willing to negotiate, so probably due to the high price.
I'd like to fly up there and drive it back, but it's hard when I work about 70 hours a week ;p
Here's a few pictures... ahhh shiny...

just me but i wouldnt spend a dime over book. i get edmunds, nada, black book and blue book and find the lowest then start my haggle a few grand lower. i just bought my s2 out of state . after about a year of searching i found on in my price range and drove from new orleans to pensacola fl with my wife paid 1800 under nada and drove it home. the right one will come along, but paying over book is the same as getting ripped off imo
Good point... I'm thinking I'll have my loan officer call him Monday to start working out the details so he knows I'm legitimate, then call him later and see if I can widdle down the price at all.
This thing has been for sale for 6 weeks, so clearly it's not going to move for the price he's asking. Maybe he'll wana get it off his lot.

Remember that if you buy it for more than book, you still won't be able to insure it for the purchase price unless you get a stated value policy. In an accident, the car will only be worth book value. If you get a loan for full or near to full purchase price and then the car gets crashed, you would be on the hook for the amount that insurance doesn't pay out. (unless you get stated value policy)
Apologies if you know this already. Just thought I would mention in case you don't.

Yeah, that occurred to me right as I got off the phone with the dealer.
I argued a similar point of the loan only being available up to NADA value... Luckily I have plenty of cushion to put down against it, but I still don't want to get ripped off
Your point is more compelling though... I'll be sure to bring that one up when I call back on Monday.

Screw the book!! If the car is pristine and the color and mileage you want, buy it. I just bought my 4th S2000 over the last 8 years and all were low mileage great condition cars. I paid high book on all of them and got high book or better when I sold them.
It really depends on what you are going to do with it, if it is a daily driver and you plan on modifying it then don't pay over book.
However, if it is a Sunday Driver and you keep it stock with reasonable mileage, go pay over book, and keep it for a long period of time, you can't loose
