S2000 Owner Considering '03 Boxster S
Both are good cars, but I have never seen what it is about the Porsche "mystique," having driven many. I guess that if you drop a load on a car you feel guilty if you don't hype it. Same thing about BMW and Mercedes. Obviously they have good build quality, but are expensive to fix, and don't last as long as the Japanese cars. You trade a little upgrading for performance loss. When you see a Neon beat M3's at an autocross, you have to wonder. They're all just cars, and the model they haven't built yet is better. The latest Road and Track had some musing from the 15 years ago column describing a certain $48,000 Porsche. Check out the numbers compared to today's S2000. Then vote with your dollars.
Whoa there in the handling category a Boxster S 6-speed MR stock lose to a stock s2k?
S2k's are nice cars but the Boxster S is just a better performer. Boxster S puts down stock 220whp and 190 tq compared to a S2k at roughly 190whp and 135tq.

Yea sure for the money I would rather have an S2k than a regular boxster, but a Boxster S I would hands down take over an s2k any day. The average person would admire the porsche more anyways despite the s2k being an exceptionally good car.

OK I might get flamed for this but why is it that no one mentioned the Vette as a possible choice. Is it that it's GM ? or the size/weight, image, what ? I have an '01 convertible Vette, and my two best buddies have a boxster S and an S2000. I've driven them both and think they both great cars. I like the handling and upscale feel of the Bosxter, but it doesnt rocket away from a stoplight like my Vette does. I like the pure sport feel of the S2000 but I just cant get used to revving a car to 7K before you feel the real thrust come on. Plus the cockpit feels real small to me, if you have two wide guys in there, you're kind of shoulder to shoulder. (guess I'm just used to wider seating in the Vette) So anyway my question is, if you are looking in the 50K+ price range, why not pick up a Z06 Vette and be faster than all of us ? Oh that's right, it only comes in a hardtop. That's why I dont have one...
BBean,
I don't think that anyone was slighting the Corvette. The original post indicated a decision between a Boxster S and an S2000, so those cars are the ones most people replied about.
Dean2900,
You can test drive the Boxster S and you own the S2000. You sound like you can afford either. Drive them both and buy the one *you* like the best. They're both, in my opinion, fine cars. My enjoyment of my S2000 won't be lessened one iota if you decide to trade yours for a Boxster S. Do whatever floats your boat.

Yeah, I know what you're saying Red, I get it. One more thing you gotta consider, when my Boxster S buddy needs a tune up, it's a big bill. It's like they gotta drop the whole engine or something, all I know is that bill hurts. Meanwhile, I think I'm correct that the first scheduled tune up on an S2 is at 100,000 miles (?) Is that true ? if so, that's amazing. So I guess that's something to consider, if you already have the bigger payment on the Porsche, you gotta include the routine service in the cost of ownership as well.
