I feel for you, I have had lemons, they do exist in every make and model for sure....

My neighbor and i bought identical volvo turbo wagons at the same time...we did a multi car deal, his was delievered a week later...mine was a lemon and he still has his with over 190k on it!(transmission, 4 batteries, multiple sensors of all kinds, light bulbs every month, and it was towed three times).

I am also on my second Volvo turbo and after 5 years it has had a couple of minor problems, but been a reliable joy to drive.

I have had other lemons. Currently my 2001 miata, a pretty reliable car and made for a long time (so they can eventually get it right?) is on it's second clutch, maybe third the shudder is back, new gas tank, new gas filler tube, new top seals, brake rotors turned at 12k miles and they need them again(normal driving) and the gearbox crunches now and then for no good reason when shifting into 2nd...this is my second miata, the first...a 1990 was flawless(no defects or warranty repairs) for 6 years.

So what can you do? Faced with this question I tried approach #1, continue to fix the car cause i love it and hope all the boogies will cease when all the components are repaired. Eventually sold that car cause it was not reliable. Approach #2, while under warranty keep bringing the car back to the dealer...that was my mustang(yeah another lemon), after 2 years and a transmission, clutch, intake manifold, exterior trim pieces, rubber top and door seals (x4), and one tow.... I just gave up and simply sold it. I rented alot of cars those two years.

Best approach #3: sell the car(cut your losses and move on) while you can, while it runs, and get another car, enjoy what you originally hoped for, yes it is more money, but throwing good money after bad with a lemon is just a cheap way to loose out on the whole experience, once a lemon, always one.

i have to agree. this is my second S2k, and not saying that it is a POS, it does have a lot of rattles. The service tech did tell me that it has more problems than others because it is so small, and a lot of plastic on leather. so it tends to rub, and make noises...

i have rear noice, front dash noise, seat belt noise... the heat shield noise.. but... the best noise.. is still vtec noise... which masks all the other noises.....

I think the only noises I have experienced so far on my MY03... are:

1) passenger seat belt rattle, which was fixed when I moved the seatbelt all the way to the top of the chair instead of letting it hang loose near the door. Other than that, I keep it belted (when I have my schoolbooks and stuff in that seat).

2) the rear window rattles even with the windows closed, but only when the wind hits it just right. If my boyfriend is riding with me, he puts his hand at the bottom of the rear glass window and pushes out. For some reason, while his hand his there, the noise stops. However, I can't reproduce the noise while sitting still... and trying to rattle the window with my hands.

Other than that, I don't have any problems with my car. Sure, there is the occasional "notchy" feeling of 1st to 2nd gear, but other than that the car feels great. No way is it a "pos"!

After reading all of the S2K horror stories, I was surprised it came in second to Porsche's 911 in reliability in Autoweek Magazine.

Personally, I put 250,000 trouble free miles on a pair of CRXSi's, and have 27,000 on my S2000 with no problems. I do use it as intended, hitting 8,500 rpm and chirping second at least once a day, 141 with the top down...... taking 90 degree turns at 35 mph etc..........
How you maintain your car matters alot.

Of course you will hear the "horror" stories. Not many people will bother to tell you something as mundane as, "My car started today".
Oh Wait! I did!

How often do you hear on the news, "Millions upon millions of people did NOT get murdered today".
