Were they test driven by a factory driver of some sort?
When I was at a tour of the Tochigi factory, we saw the cars being put on a roller dyno type affair. Just low speeds. I have no idea if they do any sort of high speed track test or whatnot.

Didn't they show us on their factory tour intro video that they to pick a few random cars for test drives on the track? I believe these are the cars that come with ~50 miles on the odometer brand new (and I believe I have one of these, though the dealership may have put in those 50 odd miles).

At the BMW plant in South Carolina the Z4s were roller tested too. It was pretty cool to watch. They drove them into a booth, hooked up hoses to the tail pipes and made a few runs through the gears.

A LOT- if not all - of car companys do some kind of break in test like this. I know some kind of break in period exists for all new cars, but they usually are put through the ringer before you ever get it. I highly doubt that includes track for for the Honda S2000 - as that would be very time consuming and could result in paint damage, etc... but its not unfeasible that they do a startup/run through gears..

Not sure if they still do this, but used to be BMW ///M motors were dyno'd prior to installing in the car. In '95 the top 10% hp motors of each batch were put aside for install in the LTW M3.
