Current registry has stalled. This is a poll asking if you feel like S2KI should officially support the current registry.

Well since this would be an "official" S2KI registry, I can see lots of support from the community as long as the person who maintains it does a good job of supporting it too.

The problem with the one we started in the Vinatage forum is that it only uses screen names. A real registry has the name and address of the current owners. They are very popular and useful in the collector car hobby. The registry allows someone who is buying a car to determine from previous owners if the car is legit both legally and physically.

But the registry would have the VIN so a buyer could contact the previous owner through S2KI if it was previously registered. It would be very helpful in these situations. Of course there would still be thousands of cars out there that would be unregistered. Folks are concerned, rightfully so,about listing real names and addresses of owners. I know I am NOT going to tell anyone where I keep my car. Simply listing the VIN and the S2KI screen name would provide a means of contacting previous owners. For instance you see a pristine car at CARMAX and they have no history. You get on the registry and amazingly you contact, through S2KI, the previous owner who said it went underwater during hurricane Andrew. I would want to know this. It took me several months to find the original owners of my car and the registry could speed this up.

Given how prone these cars are to theft, I'm personally not comfortable having my location known. What's to stop a mildly smart person from using the registry as a shopping list? I just don't see the real benefit of having a location associated with your name and VIN. The screen name and VIN should be enough to inquire previous owners on the site.

Agree with this. Screen name, city, state, last four of VIN should be sufficient. The only problem with our registry is that it is not sufficiently updated. We need a group of people, not just one person, who is willing to maintain the list. Ralper did a nice job when he started with it, but I gather that work responsibilities did not allow him to continue on.
