Is an s2000 right for me?
I am coming from owning a 12 second Camaro SS, hardtop. I can no longer afford to keep this car and a beater around so I was thinking about selling the SS and my beater to get a 2001 S2000 in the price range of 12.5k. I ruled out the m3 because it cost too much and maintenance, same for the Audi TT and the shitty engine in them. So is the S2000 going to be a good car for the next 4 years?
I just want a car I care about and no ofense but I don't want to be another Honda civic on the road. I am a student by the way.
Just to post what I have now
I am going to miss it...

I don't think this is the car for you honestly, this car lacks power compared to your camaro just know alot of people will say the s is like "a go kart" feeling, it handles very well but like I said it lacks power, you are probably use to all the torque and power but don't expect any of that from a 4 banger.
My buddy with an SS just like yours says he doesnt like how the rear wheels are just right there behind your seat. He feels like when it breaks loose he has to correct too fast where in his SS he can feel it out.

Does anyone here drive them as a daily driver?
A lot of people daily drive them but if you live in a place with bad weather it is generally recommended that you have a beater for the winter. You can get by driving it in the snow but you must have good snow tires. You're going to have to test drive one to see if it's right for you. The s2000 is completely different from your Camaro in just about every way but you might like having a different car. My dad has a 69 Camaro and I love driving it but it's a completely different experience than driving my s2000. Both are very fun cars to drive so if you just like cars in general, you will most likely appreciate the s2000.

Try posting in the FL section or just go to a dealership that has an 01 and tell them you are interested in getting one. They should let you test drive one since a used one costs less than a new civic would.
Here's an 03 at a carmax in FL: http://tinyurl.com/68fymg
00-03 are pretty similar and should at least let you know if the s2000 is the right car for you. I would imagine that it wouldn't be much of a problem daily driving an s2000 in FL.

The way I see it, just give it a shot. No one would argue the S2000 isn't an impressive machine, but it's up to you to figure out why.
You've already done the high-power, brute force thing (cool, btw. not my cup of tea but I definitely see the fun in it.
), so now why don't ya do a car that you can really "dance" with, and find out what's got us all head-over-heels about our cars.
You'll be going from a sledgehammer to a scalpel. Using this analogy, remember that different tools are used for different things, and require a different approach. Be open-minded, use it for what it's made for, and you'll love the car.
Either way, welcome

I question why you ask if it will be the car for you for only 4 years...if you can live with the power, its the car for decades.
The S replaced my FIAT 124 Spider that I purchased new in 1974, 33 years with a FIAT, I figure I can easily beat that with a S2000.
I find the S has tons of power but that is after coming from a FIAT so its really a matter of what you are used to. For me there is plenty of power but power is not what I look for in a car, I look for how fast it goes around the corners and does the top come off.
By the way, I daily mine, no issues but then again its a luxurious car compared to what I have been driving, again perception and what you are used to.
