I have a 95 Z28 that my youngest son now drives. I now have a 2002 S that I daily drive. Yes I liked the torque of the Z, but I LOVE the handling of the S much more. As others have said, try it and decide. From my experience the S is much more reliable than my Z, and has been much cheaper to maintain. That said, be very careful when you buy: If the engine has been mechanically over revved (mis shift), you're looking at $3-6,000 to repair. Have someone who knows this car check it out completely before you buy.

Almost forgot. A convertible is much more enjoyable than the Z, esp. in Fl.

If you want a go-kart, something that takes 6sec to get to 60, but can stay at 60 on turns your camero would significantly slow for, this car is for you.
Sort of...My formula could match if not exceed the turn speeds of my s2000 (More lateral grip, wider tires). Because to the numbnest of the handleing getting set into a turn was slower however. And power out of them was sometimes overly dramatic (but still fun).

I'd go for it. I came from a similar setup vehicle (high HP, so so suspension) & no regrets!

An S2000 is a very niche kind of car. It'd be tough to go from a quick torquey V8 to a high strung 4 cylinder and be happy. I really don't think you'll be happy with it, a test drive should make things pretty clear for you though.

im going to say its definately not the car for you..

1. the reason everyone else said, lack of tq and instant power

2. you said the reason your selling is you cant afford. ill bet there is not 1 part on the s2000 thas cheaper to fix then on your fbody. cosmetic, or engine. not to metion the wide amount of cars that use LSX motors and generations.

I love mine. its inreadable to drive around the turns. wear the car instead of sitting in it. i have a 12 second cavalier that traps 116 as a strait line car. ill take the s2k over it any day to drive. and the more i drive it, the less and less i care about going fast in a strait line.. its just a whole new feeling.

its definately not a cheap car to fix. if you changed your gearing in your car back to stock, you would definately get the same or better mpg as we do.

the only bad thing about DD this car is the lack of space, in cab and in trunk, but with type of car it is, you have to expect it.

if you do end up getting it, dont launch it like your f body or slam gears like it.. the rear ends arent strong in our cars, and the trannys arent a tank like the t-56.

if you can live without the torque, you will fall in love. i dont think you would like it though.

btw, with your mod list, im suprised you dont have a set of AFR's or trick flow heads on there. 500rwhp is pretty comment with a full bolt on LSX.
im on ls1tech and another corvette site.
thought about selling my s2k for a base C6 or an 02 + vette. kick the idea back and forth with an elise. i dont want to give up that go cart feeling.
after driving my s2k for awhile now, a full size car feels like a boat. lol

i have an 05 c6 corvette ls2 i am currently thinking of selling it and getting back into the s2k. i had an 01 s2k about 3 years ago. The vette is nice and the torque is great but i miss the handling and go kart like feel of the s , plus it will save me about $300 a month . so im also debating what to do but no doubt you will luv the s2000 , it is a great little car and can be even better with a turbo or supercharger.

But taking on ramps/off ramps at LUDICROUS SPEED is more fun than going fast in a straight line

And for the space balls reference.
