Justin, I respect your opinion although my point of view is different.

I would consider myself in a good place if I paid auto insurance all my life and never had to make a claim. Never had to go through the heart break and helplessness of finding my car broken into and burglarized. Never having to go through the hassle of dealing with an insurance do that's only business is to low ball me and put me in a situation where I cannot get my car back to the EXACT condition it was in before the incident.

I take care of my car and try to keep it in as good condition as possible. I would not get any enjoyment about putting used parts on it or having someone else do it.

This is the reason I don't buy used cars.
You are SO RIGHT about it being a heartbreak when you see that your car has been vandalized (happened to me), involved in a hit and run (happened to me), AND the car stolen completely (happened to me!).

I have thieves as much as the next person, and when something happens to your car it really makes you SO ANGRY, but I've found that in life, you can't think with your emotions. You can't let them get the best of you. If someone hurts you or your property, you go from there and take the measures that you feel are best. To some, resale value and proper new Honda parts are important. To others, not letting someone else's stupid behavior hurt YOU financially is such a big deal, that you take an insurance check and do what you want with the money so that you come out ahead. The latter, is just my point of view.

I respect your opinion just as much as any other's, and your civility in response gets an equal response in mine

I ended up getting a check for about $4500 when my seats were stolen and the top was slashed - would I ever want to through that again - HELL NO! I didn't sleep well for about 6 months after it happened... Ended up selling the car to lose thebad charma...

4500 was my estimate at the top of the page

You had enough to buy a used hardtop and some Bride's with that money. I'm sorry for your loss though There seems to be so much theft/scamming in Florida I don't understand it.

Yup, to some people after the car has been "violated" like that.....it's not quite the same. It sucks how the thieves can take that feeling from you for your car so they can make a few bucks.

As Justin says, that's life and you have to deal with it.

I know that personally my life would be much simpler if I viewed my car as an appliance and it did not matter to me at all what happened to it.

I'd be more sane if I drove a stock civic or corolla.......no more worries.

Without the OEM seats, the resale value of the car is greatly reduced.

I'm a little late to find this thread, but it seems like this point was overlooked.

I can see why people put seat locks on, but when a thief sees them, they're likely to get angry and take it as a personal attack. "How DARE they not let me steal their seats! I'll now break stuff to piss them off for wasting my time!"
Nice idea, but try to find even one incidence where this has happened.

In all of my experience with stolen seats and Seat Locks, I have never heard of this occurring.

I agree. The thieves are most likely to just scram when they realize they can't take the seats. Why waste timing mucking around destroying things when they could easily be caught in that time frame?

For the kind of checks people are getting from their insurance, a theif can have my seats with 35k miles on them and my not always garage kept soft top. I'll have a hard top and Brides in next week. Resale value? I'm driving this thing until the motor blows. Then, I'll put a 2JZ in it (and still be sitting comfy in my Brides).
