The S2000 Shifter
Actually, this is also what I enjoy about this car most. The shifter and transmission is to die for... and you are probably right in saying the Miata comes close, I had one for 2 years but when I tried the S2K shifter I was totally blown away.
My own shifting action is similar to how you described above. I drive the same way in all manual cars actually, unless those which has the shifter positioned really low from the floorpan.

I'd have to agree for once with Bieg.
This shifter deserves nothing less than a solid metal knob on top. I recently replaced my stock '02 leather/metal knob with an OEM Ti knob, and I absolutley love it. Even that thin band of leather robs the tiniest bit of tactile feel from the shift mechanism and the upgrade to the all metal knob is just amazing. The F1 shift style is just icing on the cake. From here on in, all my cars will have S2k-like knobs, even if, unfortunately, they won't have S2k-like shift feel and precision.
Damn I enjoy this car.

Does anyone have a photo off the Titanium knob that they can share? A photo showing both the titanium and the current leather/aluminum knob side by side would be great. I'm curious as to how different the two shapes are.
Also, how does the titanium knob feel in hot and cold temperatures? Is it overly cold or hot to the touch or does it maintain a fairly constant temperature? I know the aluminum one in single digit temps is really cold on top and I find myself keeping my hand around the leather wrapped area until the interior warms up a bit. Anyone know what Honda charges for the Titanium knob?

When its hot, the titanium knob gets hot, when its cold it gets cold. Either way, after a few minutes of driving, its fine.
It is one of the few changes that I have made to the car (rear speakers and upgraded door speakers) but it is probably my favorite mod.
I think its $120. I made my dealer throw it in when I bought the car. He did but it took him a few days to get it.
It is worth getting.

Great guys....thanks very much for the detailed responses. I think I'm going to try the titanium knob. If anyone has a titanium shifter that is in like new condition and would like to sell it, please let me know.
Thanks

The TI knob is the exact same shape as the leather wrapped knob, except without the leather.
I don't know the specific heat capacity of TI to compare with AL, but it seems the TI knob doesn't get as cold as the AL knob, so that means it shouldn't get as hot, but I limited experience with this, I just put it on last week, but damn, do I love it!!!
