Default S2000 Shifter Location

I was test driving the S2K AGAIN and a thought occurred to me about the location of the instrument clusters... Wouldn't it be nice if the shifter were located on the right hand dash panel?
I mean, how important is it to have the heater control within reach of your fingers while your hand remains on the wheel, especially with the top down?? I think engineering the stick next to the wheel would really give the feel of a "race/sports" car and make it a lot more fun. It couldn't be that hard to engineer could it? What do you think?

I like laying my whole right forearm on the center console pad for shifting. Traffic is so dense here my hand is almost always on the shiftknob.

The shifter is directly connected to forks in the gearbox so that you can move the gears. Although quite possible, engineering and producing a 'shift by wire' system is not trivial. If I was 'wishing' for stuff I would rather have a 500 pound reduction in curb weight.

Hmmm, that's a good point that I didn't think of.

Ofcourse, I consider traffic as secondary to having "fun" while driving, so being able to shift while drifting out of a corner without taking my hands off the wheel would be exhilerating! I just can't help but imagine a nice open road.

I guess I will find out the reality of "everyday" driving when I finally get my car

jehman, traffic is also secondary to my fun, but reality sometimes gets in the way.

I could see offering F1 paddle shifting and might consider that as an option. Though I could not see mounting a stick shift up on instrument panel.

I don't see where that would be comfortable at all. I love it where it is. No cable to break. Maybe you should try the new Civic Si
