Default S2000 or SLK 55

Quick history, use to own a white AP1 when I was back in CA. But sold it once I moved back to South Africa. Recently been trying to get another S2k but seeing that only 500+- S2k was sold from 1999 - 2008 it is quite a mission to get a S2000.

Used S2k 2007 here with 26500km (16466miles) for 41,263.20 USD (CRAZY)

Used SLK55 2006 with 29500km (18330miles) for for 61,610.21 USD

My concern: 2012 a new slk is coming out which will make this current less appealing. S2k is so unique and just loved it when I use to own one. But hard to find, already found 3 but each time I went to view the car it was sold already.

This car will basically be a weekend car.

Any suggesiton will be great cause can't deicde which one is better.

Alex

unless its some sort of AMG or loaded edition i'd stick w the s2k.. Now i havn't driven an slk but i've never heard rave reviews like the s2k has had. Like i said unless its got some nasty big block V8 wedged in there, i'd stick to the s2k.

SLK 55 is the AMG version. These are two totally different cars, with a big price difference. Most people here will tell you get the S2000, if you go to a MB forum they'll say go for the SLK....if I had the money to buy (and repairs) I would go for the SLK 55.

I was in the same position as you in Thailand. Only 10 were imported in 2004. Try that for rare! Imported cars here are even more expensive than what you state in South Africa. Long story short, I knew what I wanted and I got it. No regrets. I like having a car that's rarer than than a GT3 or Murcielago. If you're worried about resale or insurance hassle, get the SLK. It's gonna suck not being able to get parts for repair.

An average smart person in your situation would get the SLK. A not so financially smart person *raises hand* would get the S2000 because it is what it is.

Any reason you pick an SLK55 over a Porsche Boxster?

Well an 06 with 19K here is $20K USD, so that would leave you $20K left over to import the car. Assume $5k in total out of pocket, you would have 15K left over.

I would look to importing your own.

I'd go with the s2k bc I'm not really a fan of the slk body style plus I'm not sure what gas costs in South Africa but you'll definitely be saving a ton if you got the s2k.

+1 on importing. Or if you want to be extremely exclusive in South Africa(I do not know if they sold any there) import a CR delete model.... eh, eh, eh?
