I agree in certain aspects.
My 2001 TL ( NON S model, wife couldnt wait 3 more months) seems a little quicker than my S2000 also. A guess alot more torque gives this impression. Especially from a standing start.
Before we bought the 2001 TL we looked at the 2001 IS300. I think the IS300's handling was superior to the TL and the BMW 325is in every aspect. At the time we where also considering the CL Type S and again I liked the IS300 much more than the Type S.
The reasons why we did not buy the IS300/325Is where practical reasons:
1) IS300/325IS was between $8k-$12K more than the TL.
2) We needed ONE car that moves OK in the snow ... I dont think the IS300 w/17" wheels would have moved to swiftly in the snow packed mountains of Killington. Come to think of it their was so much snow at the lodge that the TL was having difficulty.
3) The rear seats in the IS300/325IS where REALLY small.
At the time I had my 300zxTT which was almost as impractical as the s2000.
I liked the IS300 so much that maybe next year when I get sick of the S2000 I might consider buyer the new 5 speed IS300.

Considering I tracked, AutoX'ed and dragged my S2000 quite often, I have a pretty good idea on the performance of the car (or cars).
Car & Driver rates the type S at a 14.8 quarter mile and due to torqe and displacement, I can tell that it constantly will pull these numbers (I would say my "butt" feel gets it a 15.0-15.2).
I completely disagree, handling on the TLs was far better then the IS and 325 I drove and the power was significantly better (80 more hp then the bmw). I propose that you did not turn off the traction control when driving it which I have heard "rumors" of on the TL board saps 50% of its power.
You made a solid choice on the car. My uncle drives one. I guess when you get old, you gotta get practical.
Slap on some Comptech goodies, lower it, add the OEM body kit, and you're golden. Rims are a bonus.

Well,
All I can tell you is that our CL-S certainly didn't fly around corners with the sheer stability of the 325i... the 325i couldn't touch the type S (or regular CL/TL) in terms of power...
I fully agree that the TL/CL are a tremendous value (a word stricken from BMW's vocabulary).
But understeer in the CL-S was mild to moderate. The BMW is spot on neutral...
I'm not saying the BMW is a better car (its not), but one is more of a grand tourer while the other is more of a sport sedan...
While the numbers of a 330 and CL/TL compare pretty closely in terms of performance, there is a certain "feel" which just wasn't there in the CL...
Another reason for her change -- styling. the CL just didn't do anything for her.
Of course, I know which one I'd take on ANY sort of a road trip... Acura -- hands down.

The Acura, Lexus HIDs might as well be the aftermarket superwhites them Civic kids love so much. They don't bling like the S2000 HIDs. No one else's does, actually.
Glad you like your ride. We should take on some curves sometime. Since you track a lot and I've NEVER tracked, I'd like to see exactly how good the track stud and the big TL-S rip it.

Springs on most cars make dramatic differences... I've driven a WRX with coil overs and let me tell you -- totally different feel and balance than my stock one...
I've got the "softer" wagon vs the "sportier" sedan, and the rear sway bar is a bit smaller. The car I drove with the coil overs also had some better wheels/tires than the stock POS's that come on the WRX...
All in all, if my car handled like the one I drove, I would hardly miss my S2000 in terms of the handling and go-kart like reflexes... sure, the S2000 will be nimbler by nature since it weighs less, but a WRX with adjustable suspension takes out just about any of the understeer they are plagued with...
I imagine the same holds true with the CL/TL... springs and struts will take care of a lot of the FWD behavior...

Next time... I'll have springs on and new tires for the track... I estimate this alone will dramatically effect the cars handling. The track will bring out more of the FWD flaws when I push it to the limits.
