4IGS2000,

a couple of years back, a law was introduced that requires every new car to have an immobilizer. That was due to dramatic increases in car thefts for several years in a row. With that law, theft rates went down very much (besides luxury cars).

Still, this does not stop anyone from steeling tha car if seriously and professionally interested. Additionally, as soon as driving into any major city we have those idiots who just go for the radio etc. For the last reasons, I have added a sophisticated alarm.
