My tire trailer is close to 500lbs. I balanced it to get about 10% tonque weight. I've put close to 2000 towing miles on it this year with no issues.

How heavy is the boat and trailer? I had a similar set up a few years back. The S would probably tow it fine for short distances.

The car can easily tow 1000 lb. I towed that much with a Prelude years without issue. Honda actually rated the Prelude for 1000 lb and had wiring already built into the trunk. Just go easy accelerating and use some engine braking if going down long hills.

The car is made for NO MORE then 400lbs, Thats with the driver, pass and what you have in the trunk. Whens the last time you saw a fat person in a s2k? Dont foregt ONLY 400lbs inall not in the trailer. Good luck with the trans, clutch, and the diff

At 400 lbs, you are at the load rating for the OE s-02 tires. The tires are what determine the load rating for this car. Now when you are towing a trailer, the weight of the trailer and its contents is not all on the car. Only the toungue weight transfers to the car. So using conedogger's 10% example - If you tow a 500lb trailer, only 50lbs of that is acting to increase the load on the car's tires.

What are the odds that this thread would be at the top of S2000 Talk at the exact moment that I was about to post a thread about pulling my 18.5' Bayliner Capri with my S2000? After reading all your replies, I'm pretty damn sure what you guys would say about it.

I have been pulling this 2300 lbs boat and XXX lbs trailer with my wife's '01 Acura TL. Both of our cars have a Type I hitch that is "rated" for 2000 lbs max and 200 lbs tongue weight. I know that I am exceeding the rating by probably 50%, but I only have to tow the boat about 1 mile down a smooth road to the ramp. I am positive that the tongue weight would not even be close to what the tongue weight is with my TireTail and 4 autocross tires on it. The only thing I'm concerned about is pulling close to 3000 lbs up a boat ramp.

What is the heaviest thing you know of being pulled by the S2000 for any distance?

This has been a fun thread showing the difference between folks that know about towing and those who don't have a clue. Two heavy people and a bunch of extra sound equipment, x braces, bars, and other add ons, plus a a trunk full of beer is putting more strain on your S than one person and a 500 pound trailer. As for the folks who think the tranny, diff and clutch will blow, I hate to tell you, but a Supercharger will do that a lot faster than a 500 pound trailer.

The only accurate thing I have read from the naysayers is that the manual and Honda say the towing capacity is 0. I also agree that Honda dealers will probably give you crap about the warranty if they see a hitch. I also agree that you should watch out for slippery boat ramps.

Well thanks for all the information, but the picture was meant to be a joke! I thought the size of the boat made for a good photo.
