Default S2000 Used Car Value

Hey guys, so I am a younger guy in my mid 20s starting off my career and every few months or so I run calculations for net worth mostly for my investment accounts. As part of that I include the kbb values of my vehicles. I have used the exact same options every time and update the mileage each time. Imagine my surprise when I enter all the data this month and I get a value higher than I have had in almost a year. The car is a 2000, last September it had about 60,000 miles and was valued at 10,885 under good condition, as of 31 August 2010 it has 70,000 miles and it suddenly worth 10,550. Back in February it was at 9,350. I would assume this price difference comes from the fact that the S is not sold anymore but I never expected such a drastic change especially so quickly. Opinions?

It's warm outside. Demand goes up.

Also, car dealerships value cars like S2000 higher because they can demand more money (unlike something like a rusted out minivan which most dealers want to get rid of).

I may be in the minority, but I certainly don't think I'm alone in thinking that the value of S2000s will start to move up gradually as people realize how few of them were made, how fantastic they are, and that production stopped with the 2009 model. While the newer ones are likely to continue to slowly fall in value, I think that once they hit 6-8 years old they will hit bottom and start going back up.

I personally don't care what mine is worth. It's staying in the stable as long as I am able to drive.

^^Same here. I hope to have this baby around for a long, long time. Trying to save up for an NSX next, but I have doubts I will be able to get my hands on one.

I will keep mine till I retire.. By then, the cost value ratio of my S will be virtually $0..

The way I see it. If my S2000 is only worth $12,000 with 38,000 miles on it. There is absolutely no car I could replace it with that is half as fun and as nice for $12,000....so why sell it? To have a nicer car that is as fun as the S2000 I'd have to go back into debt on a car and that is something I refuse to do. No car payments are the way to go.

There are not many cars that are as much of a pleasure to own and drive as the S2000 under $50,000, especially when you factor in the low cost of maintenance and reliability of the car.

You don't drive your car much! You need to hit some more curvy roads and have fun, bro. 38,000 miles in 8 years is pretty low. I already have nearly 21,000 miles in 11 months of ownership.

If the mileage is low, they will hold their value. If KBB says an S with 15K miles is worth in the area of $10,000 that's ridiculous. Sometimes you have to make the assumption and come up with a logical number yourself.
