Those are two completely different cars yet both equally nice in their own way. I gues the big question is... what do you plan to do with the car?... everyday driver?, track?, a little bit of both?

I say both .....the G is my wifey's car, I love driving it on occasion but don't think I'd be truely happy with it every day. She loves it to death and uses it for a 40 mile commute each day.

You have heard all the correct responses, this is all you. They AREN'T the same price though, you will pay probably around $35-$36 for what you will want in the G if you do some bargaining, the S can easily be had right at $30k

Well they are the same price here in Canada... both are 48-50 base

G35C

S2K

The S2K has optons to be added that can bump up its price too... actually, the S2K can get MUCH pricier than the G35C as it has more things to add on

Dear God, I just played with your links for a second, there's automatically about $8k in "Taxes & Levies" added to an already $50k S2k......I sure hope you folks way up in the great white north make a whole lot more than us down in the southern half of the continent!

$1,103.98 for Headrest Speakers, wow!

15% Sales Tax..... How do you like that?

As for How much we make... we are SCREWED... Well I guess it depends on which parts of the US and Canada we are comparing but let me explain:

dollar for dollar on par: you guys make more for the same work. I.e for example, an Accountant here at 55K/annum as compared to an Accounant in the US (identical) for about 60-65K/annum.....

I've notced the cost of living for most other things to be the same dollar for dollar.....groceries, clothes... a 300K house in the US is the same 300K House here...

BUT

For some reason when buying cars, the strength of the Dollar gets reflected in the price... so in the US an S2K is low 30s and in Canada its a 60K car.

so in summary we make a little less pay the same in out of pocket living expenses and pay WAY more for a car. In the US you could make 60K and buy an S2K much easier than making 50K and buying the same S2K for 60K up here

~sigh~

I guess that depends WHERE you live. Anywhere as desireable as Toronto (such a great city), for example, is going to cost WAY MORE in the US. Similar cities are NYC, Boston, Chicago, SF.

If you're looking at back-woods suburbs, then maybe you'll find a $300k house. But here in the LA area the average house price is close to $600k, the the desireable areas are closer to $800k entry price.

I know guys in Toronto that are making 80-100k Canadian and living a pretty good life. Housing IS cheaper in Canada. A lot cheaper. Even if you can't write-off the interest on your tax returns =) Cars are more expensive, hotels are cheaper, gas is more expensive, food is cheaper, and beer is WAY cheaper!

Back on topic, the G35 as mentioned is a VERY different car. Both are great cars for the money. I'd choose the G35 over a 330 BMW any day of the week. But it depends. Do you need a back seat? Do you want a convertible? Answer those and you'll get your answer.

I was in the same boat as you a month ago, thinking about trading in my 04 s for a 05g35. It really comes down to what you want out of a car. If you're looking for a luxury/sporty ride that will accomodate more than 2 passengers with plently of amenities such as navi and seat warmers then go for the g35. But then again with all that options on the car, the price is already 7k more than the s2k. If you are looking for a nimble, quick 2 seater convertible sports car than keep the s.

After test driving the 05 g35 more than once, I didnt think I would enjoy driving the car as much as the s. Theres really nothing to compare to the g35 besides a bmw 330 since you cant really compare the s2k with it.

After driving the g35 and the s2k back to back, I decided to keep the s. Im not going to have a family soon so why do i need the 4 seats and extra options?? Plus i didnt want to take the big hit of losing money for trade in just for a g35. I would rather save up and get a m3.
