S2000 vs RSX-S
I happened to stumble upon a discussion in the club RSX web page, and was caught off guard by one fact.
The discussion was whether or not a RSX could take a S2000 in a drag race. Naturally most of the RSX guys said the RSX(modified) was quicker.
However that was not my interest.
It was suggested that the earlier S2000's(backed up by dyno runs) were 6 to 10 hp down from the 02 models forward. Something to do with transmission changes and agressive fuel mapping.
Can anyone substantiate this?

From what I've read on here, hp numbers are pretty much identical (ie, within the same range) for all years of the S2000. Depending on conditions, you could expect a car in Florida (hot and damp) to dyno a good 5whp less than a car in, say, Ann Arbor, Michigan (cool and dry). Those differences are common for different climates (and even different days, same location).
That said, how modified is the RSX? If it has a Hondata ECU and a intake/headers/exhaust, it'd probably give the S2000 a good run (and possibly beat it). With just CAI or something, the S2000 will generally win (as long as the drivers both know what they're doing).

Copied from the RSX page.
Just throwing in my $0.03 (since i have a lot to say ;-).
I've dyno'd dozens of S2Ks and RSX-Ss. I use a dynapack, so readings are different than the typical dynojet, but the results are very accurate, as several race teams will attest to after using my dynapack to tune their cars.
In general, here are the average numbers (actuals vary by a couple hp in each direction) I've seen:
Stock 00-01 S2000 - 212 whp (210-214)
Stock 02 S2000 - 217 whp (216-220)
S2000 w/CAI, Exhaust, VAFC - 225 whp (222-228)
Stock RSX-S - 170 whp (160-172)
RSX-S w/Hondata, AEM, exhaust - 199 whp (195-202)
RSX-S w/I/E/Race Header/Hondata/ITR cams/ITR mani - 230 whp
RSX-R w/Hondata I/H/E - 234 whp
In general, the RSX-Ss with Hondata, regardless of other mods, are making more torque and power than the S2000 below 7000 rpm, regardless of which NA mods the S2000 has.
When looking at the best quartermile times, note that the best posted slip ever for a stock S2000 was a 13.66 at Englishtown in moderate weather conditions. Other guys have run 13.7, 13.8 stock in cool conditions. In locales near jdkindle (texas) with similar weather conditions (40s-50s for temps) a few S2000 owners w/intakes have run consistent 13's (as fast as 13.7) with traps between 101-103 mph on OEM tires. None of them have made as many runs as jdkindle though, as S2000 owners don't seem to spend much time at the dragstrip.
I believe that a RSX-S with Hondata and intake won't quite be able to take a stock S2000, either from a stop or on the roll. Add in a race header and cams, and I think the tables are definitely turned. Give the S2000 I/E and VAFC, and it becomes a very close race.
When comparing trap speeds, keep in mind that if there are differentials in ET with similar trap speeds (say one car runs a 14.0@100 while the other car runs 13.7@99) that the faster trapping car is not necessarily going to be faster on the roll. In the example mentioned, note that the car running 100 mph took 0.3 seconds longer to reach that speed. So the slower trapping car may actually reach 100 mph in the same amount of time (1 mph in 3 seconds is not unreasonable at these speeds for cars in this performance range).
Once again, I think a Hondata/intake/exhaust Type-S isn't quite up to running an S2000 under even conditions. But give the Type-S another mod, or the S2000 a below average driver, and the S will do quite well.

That post you copied from the RSX board looks like it was done by Ultimate Lurker (UL). He is IMHO one of the more knowledgeable people on this board. He has previously said pretty much the same thing in various posts here- 02's seem to make more hp than 00-01's. I haven't seen anything conclusive as to what makes the difference, but the initial speculation is that it may be the ECU. Honda may have made the A/F a little leaner thus giving the 02's more power. The flip side of this would mean that the V-AFC would probably not yield as much of a gain for an '02. Gernby's experience seems to substantiate this theory here and here. I haven't seen any posts about transmission changes contributing to more power, but I certainly could have missed them.

Please see my post under street encounters re: NOT GOING TO WASTE MY TIME ON ANY RSX-S DRAGS. UL has found under numerous dyno testing that the 02's are more powerful due to an advanced ECU, not much though (apx 5+ RWHP). Stock to stock the RSX-s is not as fast but more easily modded and can be made really fast. A few responders to my above mentioned post were from club rsx and agreed with the outcome from my race.
