Default S2k or 2007-up Si?

Hello fellow S2ki members!

I am a 22 yr old college student in Maryland and I am currently saving up for a down payment on either a 2007-up Civic Si or an S2000. My job is okay but can be tedious at times so I figure I need some motivation as to why work so hard haha. The reason I am getting a car is so that I can give my current car back to my brother(he needs it back, it is a 2002 SE-R Spec V and his 350Z is not very roomy and it cannot be driven in the snow.) I could probably afford to spend arouns 14-15k depending on how much I plan to put down on the down payment. This probably equals an AP1.

I was considering the Si because I can get all the "fun to drive"-ness of a Honda(smooth gearbox) without any of the drawbacks the S2k presents such as RWD and no go in the snow(I live in Maryland) and the need to buy a hardtop. I hear many S2k's get their softtops slashed and seats stolen =(

I know there will obviously be some S2k bias on this forum, however, shud I just go for an Si? Thank you all.

If you need convenience and snow then SI.
You can wait until you finish school to get an s2k and have a beater for now to save some cash for future mods on your future s2k (:
Edit: but I would get the s2k

I dont really need a backseat, the main thing that is stopping me from S2000 is the snow. Plus I am not done with school for a while. Might as well live my dreams now and go for an S2k........but then again the Si is still fun to drive sighh i dunno man

Have you driven both? They are two completely different cars, built for different reasons. The Si is a sporty sedan/coupe that is a fun grocery getter, but quickly loses its luster and realistically not that exciting to drive. The S2000, however, was engineered to damn near perfection. It's a car that can carve up a mountain road right out of the box and look good doing it without breaking a sweat.

How is RWD a drawback? Name one great sports car that was FWD? And addressing the driving in snow issue...there are definitely people who drive their S in the snow. It doesn't seem as uncommon as you think it is. There are pictures...google them.

And there's more pictures where those came from.

It really sounds like you WANT the s2000, but are letting your "responsible" side get the better of you and are compromising with the Si.

I know the feeling all too well. When I was first thinking of buying a new car, I was a year older than you are now, and I was torn between the same two cars you are thinking of (I had owned an Si in the past, but was riding a motorcycle as my primary means of transportation). I really wanted the S but I kept thinking "man, what if I need extra space? What about the extra unnecessary fuel consumption? Insurance is going to cost more..." Because I used to own an Si, I kept on thinking of the awesome practicality it provided to me. I loved my Si BUT I realized that all of these worries were just my subconscious trying to do the responsible thing by going with a more economical, "smart" choice while still allowing me to have fun with my car.

I had driven both cars at that point and I realized...the s2000 was the better choice for me. I realized that the (somewhat)economical sedan could wait until I had a family and NEEDED the extra space.

Why should I have to settle? I don't have kids, I'm not married, and when is the next time I'm going to have another chance to own a sports car, let alone one of the greatest sports cars EVER designed? The S has more than enough room for me. If I want to go snowboarding...I throw my board and boots on my passenger side and cruise up to the resort. Golfing? Golf bag fits perfectly in the trunk...maybe even room for two golf bags and a small cooler. Vegas for the weekend? No sweat, two duffel bags in the trunk and my girlfriend riding shotgun, top down, 250 miles up the 15 freeway.

I bought my S in the summer of 2009. It's been my daily driver ever since and I've never looked back.

Good luck with your decision. As being an owner of both the Si and the S2000, I can tell you that I definitely have way more fun driving the latter. It's not the car for everyone, but to the lucky few who own an S...it is.

My .02 personal experience, I can't imagine only having the S as a primary vehicle. I do daily the S to work but, for other things (grocery, other misc. items that would no way near fit in the S.) Although, it does have a nice size boot. Thankfully, I have a SUV.

If your lifestyle suites an S2000 go for it!

Unfortunately, I don't live in an area where it snows so I can not give my input on that topic.

I would read this if you do decide to get the AP1 or any S2000 -->

I have a s2k. My brother has an 08 4door Si. Honestly they are both great cars. I can tell you that daily driving the s is a two edged sword. Its great to drive, but its has minimal people and cargo space, and nowhere near the amenities of the Si (stereo, comfort, room, etc etc). I've driven his civic a bit and while it is fun to drive, its just not the same as the s. If you can handle the minimalist nature of the s, then go with it. If you need more space and "stuff" in your car, go for the civic.

Im from Louisiana so I can offer no advice about snow.

I have both an 07 Si and a S2000. Both are fun to drive....though the S2000 sits in the garage the winter months. The Si is great in snow. There are quite a few people I know in NY state that have both cars and most park their S2000 for the winters, or at least when the roads are bad. Those that do drive their S2000's year round get snow tires. The hardtop is a nice addition too. I don't think you get nearly as harsh a winter as we do, so there might not be many days you need another vehicle.
During the non-winter seasons I think we all would prefer the S2000 over the Si.
Good luck on your decision.
