between the 2 cars s2000 FTW!

but I always regret that I had a 2 door during my college years, because being a college years you need to move your crap every year in and out of school...etc not to say those awesome road trip with friends... and of course tons of time left everyday to go it the slope for skiing... my conclusion? should have gotten a Subaru STI, EVO 9, or like a cheapo Subaru WRX Wagon as a second car...

S2000 hands down.
Yeah man thats what I was thinking. But if you read my post the Si can bring up all the "fun to drive"-ness of a Honda, with none of the S2k drawbacks...........hmmmm siiggghh I wanna decide soon
Anybody that has driven both vehicles would not agree that the "fun to drive-ness" of the vehicles is even on the same level...

If you have to ask then you aren't ready for either. With it being a long term purchase you need to KNOW what car YOU want. Go drive both. Drive other cars. Pick the one that calls to you.

I’m going to be the party pooper with my perspective. If I had an s2k at 22 it would have been a fast trip to jail or my funeral. I know most folks here are young, but I just didn’t have the maturity to handle a car like this at your age (hell, I hardly do now).

Now that I’m exactly 10 years older than you, I can respect it and enjoy it at the same time.

This isn’t meant as a judgment of yours, or any other members, maturity. I’m just speaking for myself.

As always with these threads, test drive.

Not quite. The Si's fun to drive but it's no S. Again, test drive. Though if you really think RWD is a drawback then you should probably stick with the Si. If you need convenience then stick with the Si. You need to decide based on your priorities and needs -- not on polling us. Obviously our priorities are different. The driving experience is what matters most to many of us (why we always say test drive).

You need to consider much more than just the car purchase. Have you priced insurance? Have you looked at what tires cost and what it will cost you to replace tires every ~20K or less (twice as often on the rears) as well as owning a set of winter tires and rims for them? Have you consider the cost of the more frequent fluid (tranny & diff) changes and alignments?

Spend some time reading up here if you're seriously considering the S.

just my opinion...wait until you can truly appreciate the car. I've wanted an S since I was 15 and I almost pulled the trigger when I was 20, but I realized it would have been way too much of a compromise and a hassle and bought an Accord. Then I paid off the Accord in 4 years, and a week before I closed on my house last spring I drove to TN and bought my S2000. Absolutely thrilled that I waited; the S is 'just a car', but to me it's a very special car that deserves far more than road salt and grocery getting. It makes it that much more special to me that I only drive it when I can pull the top down and pretend I'm an F1 driver on every curvy road that I can find.

I’ll also add this; as someone who squandered away their first opportunity for an education, the last thing you need to be worrying about is making car payments. Really; you are a broke college student, you don’t need debt.

How much longer do you have in school?

How about this for a plan; use you down payment (and maybe save a bit more) to pay cash for something. My wife has a 1st gen CR-V and it’s great (ok, handling is lacking and it has no power). Stay with me here. You can get one for cheap, insurance and maintenance is cheap, 30+ mpg, and the all-wheel drive is great in the snow. 170k with only a new radiator and cooling fan motor. It also has a load of space for people and things.

Graduate college and get a job. Pay cash for your dream s2k and keep the Cr-V for winter and times you need more space. You end up with an education, a job, your dream car, a cheap snow/hauling car, and no car debt……..wish I had done things that way!

Now all that said, yes; I do realize that I am on an s2k forum!

My friend got his 07 si about a year and a half ago. I purchased my 04 s2000 back in may. While driving his car was actually pretty fun, when I bought my car, he soon wanted to actually sell his to get an s2000 himself but couldnt because his parents payed for the si and didnt want him getting rid of it so soon. Like what everyone else said, he noticed it to drive like a gokart (and that was when I still needed to get new rear tires). He also noticed it to be much quicker too.

I daily drive my s2000 and the snow is the least of my worries. Most of the time its sometimes I wish I had a car that had back seats to lug more people occasionally. But nothing beats just having two seats in the end of it. I live in PA and while we havent had much snow this year, just get good snow tires. If your planning on lowering it, get coils so you can jack it up during winter. From what I have read really good snow tires on the s2000 make the car drive through the snow with ease.

Its all up to you. Drive both and see what you like more. You posted on an s2000 forum so your going to get more s2000 bias, but if you post on 8th civic Im sure people there will tell you to get an s2000 there also. The way I look at it, winter is only a few months, once I get by those, I have many other months to enjoy.
