A rule of thumb for me in any future cars is nothing over 15 years old. I know...that knocks out A LOT of cars, but I'd rather pay a little more for something newer that will not need any major work. My $.02 worth.
Fair enough.

I agree. I drive mine all year and always find excuses to take it out. Living in a non-salt road state helps.

I've owned a '69 Boss302 and '68 428 Cobra Jet Mustangs, 4 RX7's and my AP1 2002 S2K, and the most reliable and fun to drive has been my S2K. But if you want to talk "raw", there isn't anything much more raw than my '61 Bugeye Sprite.

I wonder what my mint condition, 2001 with just 31,000 miles is worth.
Only a few weeks after Old racer wrote that I sold my 2001 with 268,800kms for A$33500, on May 31, 2021.
I had owned it since new but if you had asked me its value 2 years prior I would have been more than happy with the A$20000 it was insured for.

I'm out looking for my second S2000 and mannnnn prices are high. Looking at a 2007 with 66k miles and they are asking $32k...with minor accident damage in the past. Almost every S2000 that dealers are putting up lately, in the colors I'm interested in, seems to have had some kind of past damage. That is all, ugh. Prices will likely stabilize or appreciate further, so it could be worse.

yeah I think even if the used car market returns to normal we won't see clean low-mileage one-owner S2000's for 20k ever again - they're just getting older and rarer over time.

I wasn't happy dropping 29k on my '03 last summer but it was everything I wanted so I just bit the bullet and have no regrets.

Sorry you’re living through this. I bought mine in Sept 19 and thought I was a little on the high end at $24k for 31k miles 07 NFR. Also I talked the dealer down from $26k. I would think prices might stabilize at some point but the big problem is out of control inflation has pushed everything up. Not sure how much down it’ll come. Your best bet is BAT for clean low miles example and I think you could bid that price or better with no damage.

If you don't mind me asking, how many miles did your car have on it when you bought it? My car's in good shape but has around 95,000 miles on it. I've begun to think about parting with both my NSX and S2000. They're both great cars, it's just that when I bought them I knew that I wouldn't keep them forever. If/when they go on the market, I'll be looking to ask a reasonable price, i.e. nothing ridiculous but not giving them away, either.

Scroll down 1/4 way down in the page. You'll see analytics for prices over the years.

Speaking of BAT, I thought about bidding on that nice one-owner 2003 on BAT now. Alas, having already owned an AP1 in the past, I’m looking for an AP2 this time. Going back and forth about 04-05 vs 06 up but strongly leaning toward the 04-05 given throttle cable and no VSA. Hard First World decisions I know LOL.

Don't feel sorry for me, I'm an idiot, LOLOLOL.

I bought a three-owner, clean 11k mile 2002 S2000 in 2008, for $15k. I then drove it happily for almost eight years, until I caught the NSX bug. Instead of keeping the S2000 and my NSX, I traded the S2000, at 35k miles (still low) for the NSX, getting $18k for it.

Now I've owned my NSX for six years and despite how much I love it and enjoy driving it, I want to add a S2000 back. I chose to do so now because prices on these will increase even after the used car market corrects itself, and I don't want to kick myself more than I already do for selling my first S in the first place. Plus, I'll have a NSX AND a S2000, which has been "garage goals" for me forever.

I WAS going to buy a 996 or 997.1 911 Turbo or GT3, but that market is just insanely, stupidly high right now. I'd rather just buy a reasonably low mileage AP2 now, let it appreciate while I drive it, and save the rest of the money I would have spent on a 911 on retirement.
