S2K bubble?
That's funny, because for me the convertible aspect was a non-factor. I had always loved the car for everything BUT the soft-top... totally neutral on that. However, now that I own one, I absolutely LOVE the fact that it's a convertible. In 2 years of driving it, the top has been UP maybe 1% of the time. I had no idea I would love top-down driving so much.
It's just such a special car all around. I love my S2K. The only thing I can think of that would replace it is a new 718, but even still... nah. Half the fun of ownership for me is wrenching on the thing, and that wouldn't happen with a 718 (as if I could afford one anyway).

And while I will never sell this one because I regretted the last one so much, I could definitely see adding a 981 to the stable. 718 is a little too rich for my blood at the moment.
Before buying mine, I never, ever was interested in a drop-top. Did not in any way appeal to me. What appealed to me about the S was simple: A Honda, a performance car, and I knew the original owner of mine for many years and knew his S since it was new.
My initial test drive, I kept the top up. Bought it without having driven with the top down.
The day I took possession, went direct to my tire guy where the OEM AP2V1 wheels with the Indy 500's replaced the stock AP1 wheels and the original tires. Still top up.
Home, I lowered the top and vacuumed it. Then went for my true/real first drive as the owner....
Since then I have driven with the top up enough times to count on one hand. My Lord what an experience with the top down. I was converted and became a believer in top-down motoring since that first day of ownership.

I don’t really care about only the soft top on the S2000–I’m not really a convertible person. For me, it was the entire driving experience. I was hooked as soon as I did my first 1st-2nd-3rd WOT acceleration. I really miss that, having sold my S a few years ago. The NSX that replaced it is special and a fantastic drive, but in a completely different way from the S2000. So there’s a place for both in my driveway. What I found, BTW, after buying my NSX is that there are so many Honda nerds who own both, and for the same reason I’m chasing down another S2000 now.

As electronics have become increasingly invasive in today's vehicles, there hasn't been a car made in nearly two decades that has truly appealed to me, so I no longer find myself being tempted by anything new. Regardless of whether prices were to continue to rise, or the bottom were to fall out of the used/enthusiast/collector car market, the most attractive option for me remains hanging on to the S2K to drive and enjoy when I feel like it.
I have a 2000 Tundra and a 2007 S2000. I honestly don’t plan on any other car the rest of my life and both should easily last that amount of time.
.The top is one of my favorite features. Just seconds to go up or down. All I have done is add NVH insulation which made it quite for highway conversation and improved the sound of the new head unit but stock speakers.
My wife and I look for places to go visit with this car. Highway 1 up and down the west coast, Sierras, Death Valley, Sequoias, the list goes on and on. We now have 76K miles and are planning to head to the Black Hills driving with my brother in law and his Vette.

Again, why I'm jumping back into the S2000 market now. S2000s are appreciating, but have not yet reached the crazy bonkers level outside of the CR.
Insulation in the doors you mean? I’m debating on doing this to mine and will have to check this out. My wife and I also like to plan out trips. We’ve done 2 fall trips and 1 spring trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway since I got it and will do the last stretch of it this spring. Also a May trip to the Dragon and another in October. I really wish we had more variety like you have out by you but we get plenty of mountain roads and wineries here. Planning out the trip is almost as much fun as the trip itself. Almost.....
I did more than add something to the doors. Great bang for the buck doing the doors but the trans tunnel and floor also had huge impact.

Good luck. I saw the listing for the two that are out there. As you are undoubtedly aware, either of the two NSX blues is super-rare (only 88 Long Beach Blue in total), the owners know it, and they charge accordingly. That dealers are asking $150k and $160 for the two...and will probably get it. NSX market is absolutely bonkers right now.

I don't actually know any car enthusiasts who would buy an automatic NSX, let alone for $150k. Surely as you said someone will buy it, but I'd pay $10k more for the higher mileage 6 speed manual transmission version any day of the week. To be honest, my DD is my first automatic ever - an 08 Element and I've been debating trying to swap it out for a manual if I can ever find one... as is it took me 6 months back in 2015 to find this one which was the year range I wanted, the blue I wanted, and an AWD EX model. For the life of me I could not find one at that time with a 5 speed transmission (they're nice because you can add in the 6th gear components from other K-series trans for better highway mileage plus I think the front LSD too).
As far as S2k and NSX prices... starting to think they will not significantly drop from where they're at now and as much as I wince in pain at dropping ~ $150k on an almost 20 year old NSX, that is literally the only other dream car on my bucket list so I may just have to do it. There are definitely better cars even from that era but for me the joy comes just from the driving experience and Honda really had that "fun factor" down pat through the 90's and early 2000s - they never had the fastest cars but when they tried to make a fun car they scored every time (OG NSX, S2000, Type R Integras and Civics, some of the Preludes may they RIP).
Car folks are recognizing that now that the market is shifting away from traditional fun driver-centric cars, which means the supply of our old glory day vehicles is only going to shrink, pushing demand and prices up.
Loved the NSX, not way I would pay $150K for one, not enough storage apace, unless you are a millionaire with the ability to have a hanger to store one's collection. Too much money in the system is causing this craziness in prices, that in addition to the electric craze as you mentioned. Cheers and good luck to those chasing an S2000 or NSX.
