S2K+ Comptech or Z4 si?
z4 3.0 si, z4 m will all get owned by a supercharged s2000. think about it. the m3 engine they put in the m3 dynoes about 270~290 to the wheels. vorteched s2000 dynoes to about 290 to the wheels, while the SOS supercharger dynoes around 350whp. s2000 with s/c = 2800 lbs. z4 3.0si or z4 m are both around 3100 lbs. can this get harder than it seems? power to weight ratio mean anything? i guess its just down to preference now. if you have the cash to maintain a bangle bmw and need the luxurious stuff, go for it. if not, s/c s2k.

4.56 gears + reinforced diff = $1500
supercharger & SoS big boost kit = $7000
install for both if you dont do it yourself = $1000
gears give you lots of low end grunt, supercharger with SoS kit will give you 350-360WHP..
will smoke the crap out of any z4 (including the M) and still be cheaper and reliable and MUCH MUCH more fun to drive.

I understand how it works (I did basically the same thing to my cbr1000RR) but is this a gear box or final drive change?
Where will the RPM be at highway speeds (65-85)?
The $9500 is just a bit more than the 7 and change I thought I was spending, but isn't at all un reasonable.
As to those who continue to say that the SI gets "blown away" by the standard Comptech charged S2K, the quarter mile times are also comperable in general and are just as close as the 0-60 numbers (within a 10th). The cars (again we are talking Z43.0 si AND standard Comptech kit with aftercooler S2K) are really close...
But the SOS version (if it is also very reliable) is certainly a bit more of an Eye opener, especially with the gearing change, as long as I don't ruine drivability to gain the low end power...
Not to start a big ordeal, but after driving both vehicles stock, the 200+ pounds of torque make that si move... Absolutely quite a bit quicker than the 06 and 07 S2ki as stock. I am set to spend the money and after driving them back to back several times, I would simply not consider the S2K without the supercharger (and this is NOT ANY KIND OF BASHING).
The non charged S2K is simply not as quick as the si. It's down 60+ lbs of torque (at 4000 rpms lower) and 30+ hp at the wheels...
All of the test info and times realeased and in print have the quater and 0-60 times very close for the si and standard comptech S2K.
My question is more about the ride character of a charged s2k...
I really don't mind the need for the higher revs and actually like a higher strung vehicle (I am a sportbike / honda nut as well...)

The gearing change and especially the SOS would leave very little doubt and still have me substantially less cost.
Hopefully I get this done shortly, and if top gear still leaves comfortable cruising speed (and remains as reliable as the standard comptech, I believe I'll do the S2k SOS and rear end.
If not, I just have to decide if I want to wait 3k rpms to get the 25 less ft pounds of torque (but 60 more HP) that the standard Comptech S2k delivers...

where are you getting +30 whp for the Z4? S2K will put down 205-210.
Where are you getting these 0-60 times and 1/4mile times? Everyone is telling you the performance between a boosted S2K and a stock Z4 3.0 si is NOT comparable.. we're not pulling this out of our ass and we're not a bunch of 'fanbois'
BMW USA states the Z4 3.0 si goes from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. Car & driver pulled a 5.3.. The fastest I've seen for the Z4 is 5.1 and I don't know how credible that # is. Similar magazines have posted times of 5.2 and 5.3 for a stock S2K. Take these with a grain of salt because the S2K is also harder to launch.
C&D posted 14.0 flat for the BMW in the 1/4 mile. I'm having trouble finding some better times, but a stock S2K can break into the 13.6xx.
Now I hate magazine racing, but as I posted before, I'd like to know why you think the Z4 is so much faster when real world experience backs up the fact that they are pretty much even in a straight line race.. not to mention the S is a bajillion times more fun

ok here is the deal 9/10 the z4 off the line is going to be faster for the average driver. The s2k, in order to get those acceleration times is going to have to be launched. that is a tricky thing to do-- look at the 5-60 times..of both cars.
the two cars drive very differently so you really have to pick which car you like better based on the way you drive. And if you are worrid about racing hp numbers, just supercharge the z4 and kiss all those supercharged s2000s goodbye.... they have a kit out for the pre-06 ones for over 300 hp and a hell of a lot more torque lol
that said i like the s2000 better plus I think the z4 is ugly but unless your a pro driver the z4 is going to be easier to drive fast for most people simply because it has torque lol...
