Default S2K as a Daily Driver.

It seems to me that a lot of owners have this car as their weekend vehicle and drive a beater or something else during the week/winter. I personally am looking at an AP2 for a daily driver that I would drive to school/work/everywhere 24-7/365.

I live in TX so I don't have to worry about the whole "driving a beater during winter" because we have no winters, lol. I've been saving my money for a long time after selling my last car, and have heard really nothing but great things about the car from owners, I just want to make sure that it will be a good/reliable daily driver. I plan to have the car for 5 years at the least, probably more, as I'm not one of these people who goes out and gets something new every 2 years. I find something I like and stick with it.

Many people around me are giving me crap about the car being a convertible due to saftey reasons/theft reasons, saying the top will "leak" and that all convertibles have problems, blah blah blah.

I know at the end of the day the S2000 is a Honda and that means reliabilty and quality, so just help ease my mind already!

I daily drive my s2000, and its great! I have had no problems at all, the car has been great!

As far as the convertible top goes, alot of ppl have a problem with wear on the top, by thats normal as most tops will do the same! Kinda should be expected when buying a convertible.

I would definetly recommend this car, lots of fun! And well worth every penny!

Any way to prolong the life of the top / slow the wear down? I know garaging it will help since the TX sun is a bitch, but I drive a lot and am forced to park outside, so the only time the car is going to see the garage is at night when I get home.

I've had no problems with the S as a daily driver. I look forward to driving it to and from work each day. If a day didn't go so well, I drop the top on the S and the the problems fly away in the wind. There are several people on this board that have the S as a daily driver.

As far as the convertible top goes, I did have a tiny drip on the passenger side seal and a tiny hole caused by premature wear. The dealer replaced the entire top and all of the seals under warranty.

The info on this board is great. If you've done your research here, there will be no surprises. The S is awesome. I daily drive mine and take the long route most places. You will want to drive it everyday.

Yeah I searched more about the top wearing issues, seems like some people get lucky and have none, while others get them. I will def. watch out for wear spots when I get mine.

The thing I like most about the S2K, and I'm sure some will disagree b/c they love to mod, but I think the car comes so freakin sexy from the factory. I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to MAJORLY mod it at all. I love the AP2 V1 wheels (that's why I'm going for a gently used '04-'05) and the redesign of the headlights/tailights. I've also read that the AP2 is more daily driver friendly.

try to get an 05, not that the 04's are bad or anything, but some have a popping first gear. I haven't had it happen to me, but something about 04 had an issue.

I DD my stock AP2 and I enjoy it. I used to DD a hatchback and on rare occasions, I missed the trunk space or the back seat. But the fun of driving the S more than makes up for it. Reliability varies by how well you take care of it. The S is as reliable as any Honda when driven and cared for like any other Honda.

It's a cliche, but you only live once and if it's what you desire and you have the means, then by all means get one and enjoy it for what it provides you.

Do a search on the use of teflon tape or felt material on areas of the top that make contact with the frame. I apply a UV screening vinyl protectant called 303 after every wash and I have not seen signs of wear, yet.
