S2K as a Daily Driver.
If you are a big guy, then it CAN get old over time. The lack of trunk space or any utility can be hard at times if it is your only car. other than that, no probs and reliable. no top leaks unless you dont take care of your car, or have an old ap1 plastic window that get brittle and cracks
My S2000 could serve as a daily driver, but I don't use it as such. I live in Orlando, and I just like a more relaxed drive to and from the office. Discounting the space limitations and the fact that the car only holds two people, to me it is a touch too high strung as a commuter car. But when the weekends come....what a blast.
My lovely s2k is a DD. I take it to school, work, play, the whole nine yard. I park my car outisde everyday and have no problems at all. I live in a state that has all 4 seasons and so far the convertible top is holding up pretty well. Just take care of it ie. wash it, shin-etsu grease it, oil change, put some kind of protectant for your convertible top and your good to go. Also, enjoy it as much as you can!
I am sure it would be fine as a DD if you don't need to lug stuff around or modded like mine. But I have plenty of paperwork and I drive long distances daily. It looks great in the garage, and yes the wear on the top can be an issue, but it would be that way across the board I think. I leave mine down at all times.

Any way to prolong the life of the top / slow the wear down? I know garaging it will help since the TX sun is a bitch, but I drive a lot and am forced to park outside, so the only time the car is going to see the garage is at night when I get home.
Thankfully, there is a lot of great information on the boards here and the DIYs can cut repair bills in half!
Yet another reason to pay the $20 membership and keep this site up and running!
Oh, and if you're concerned about soft top wear:
Get a cockpit cover and just leave your top down all the time.

Or get a hard top if you're worried about theft.

i have a DD S2000. winter in salt lake city--no top down, winter tires so no fun corners--takes the fun out of the car sometimes, though it can be fun to fool around when snow is on the ground. in TX you won't need winter tires, so just be aware you lose traction the few times it gets below 40F. and when i had a convertible DD in mississippi, i had the top up for heat in the summer as much time as i had it up for cold in the winter!
tops wear over time, but mine (new) doesn't leak. i've even taken it through a drive-through car wash without any real trouble. if it's worn out, you need to buy a new one or duct tape behind the holes in the top while you save up to replace it. i did that with my old convertible while in college and it worked fine.
for theft, valuables in sight are what causes this, not a top. it's as easy to break a window as slash a top, though sometimes people think to slash before smash.
as for vandalism, it's a nice car, so don't leave it in a neighborhood where you would expect a BMW/Merc to get keyed.

I live in central California and I drive my S2000 daily. I put 23,000 miles on it last year. As far as a daily driver goes, its reliable, fun, not too bad on fuel. I am normally the type of guy who switches my daily driver every year to year and a half, but I am sure I will have this car for years to come.
The upkeep is not much worse than a Honda Civic, parts are a little more but not in P car range!
Some of my concerns that I have found with this car are, paint is thin and chips easy, the metal is thin and dents easy, and I have heard that Automatic car wahes will leak through the top seals, but I hand wash mine and have never had a problem.
Oh and I go through tires every 7 months
