What about the rent, PG&E, sewer, water and garbage? Stock tires on this car cost about $700, plus sales tax will run you about $60, plus installation which is about another $50 to $60. Do you have any clue as to how much insurance is for a driver of an S2K that is under 25 years of age? Oh, I forgot, you are on your parents policy.

Did I mention the cost of good food. When you are paying for all of this, then you can talk about making ALL your own payments.

On this car around 10-15k is the norm for replacing tires and typically those that wait until 15k are really pushing it.
No, that is not true. I have 13K on the rears and 22K on the fronts. Both sets are perfecly servicable and have plenty of meat over the wearbars. I even went through the California rain storms a short while ago just fine. The only reason the rears were replaced early at 9K miles was due to an unrepairable puncture on the passenger side tire forced me to replace both of them to keep the tires at the same wear level.

My fronts should crap out in the late summer/early fall time. The rears still look new - and I was under the car looking at them 2 weeks ago. I can easily see 25+K for the fronts, ~20K for the rears. It all depends on what you do with the car and what kind of alignment you have.

For S-02's I was looking at $375 for the rears (mounted) and slightly less for the fronts. Prices have gone up since then though.

You're not even allowed to have a license until 17 here in the UK. You have plenty of time yet. Concentrate on school/ losing your virginity
It's much easier losing your virginity if you have a car. You can even lose it several times if you own an S2000.

I completely disagree. If you do a simple search you'll find that your opinion is very rare and that most owners of so2s will tell you that you'll end up dead if you go longer than 15k and it rains a drop. PLEASE NOTE I only have so2 experience and that is not whats on the new s2000. As for the pay no pay I was expresing my opinion that people should support this site and the amazing amount of liers that say they own a S when they do not. If you don't like my opinion fine but I don't think I'm being mean spirited about it.

Yeah I know sometimes topics just change and you have no idea what the original was. Usually because the original was so stupid that we get bored and move on. I hate when people smoke pot and post crap. I have however posted drunk before, I posted a lot of crap then too.

I don't think you are being mean spirited or out of line in any fashion. My tires (also S-02s) are perfectly serviceable now in the wet or dry. Just because I claim there's no 15K limit on them doesn't mean I am claiming there's a 30K limit. It's all in how you drive and your alignment. I'm pretty sure there are people here who have gone through a set of rears in 5K miles. I just don't drive like they do. A coworker replaced his rears in 5K miles. He drives like I do, but after bitching to the dealer they found his alignment was way off, fixed that and gave him new tires.

This set is doing him much better.

Ok, I'm sorry to crash your 30-somthing club meeting, but there are those of us who are in our early 20's and successful. I keep hearing on this board about how people under 25 dont deserve this and that, but I have made a lot of good decisions in life and worked hard. From my first car (87 chevy nova. bought for $500 when i was 15 and paid my own insurance) to my s2000, I have done it through my own hard work and intelligence. Now half of the members of this board want to tell me I'm too young to deserve this car??

By the way, for the guy who said that insurance was too expensive for people under 25: I have a GOOD policy that only costs me 1300/year.

I think it would be too much to handle. You need to build your way up slowly. Get a good rear wheel drive car to step into, beat the hell out of it and learn the charactaristics. The S is way too expensive to repair should anything go wrong and very unforgiving if you don't know how to drive a rwd car.
From the guy who drove his off a cliff..................
