S2k Intake
Well, this is the set-up I used:
First of I installed a T1R test pipe, which by the way only netted me 1HP.Car has only 3,650 miles. Disappointed, I decided to experiment with a filter I have used with extreme succes in the the past on turbo cars: The now discontinued HKS Metal Flow filter (200mmX170MMX80mm opening). This filter incorporates a stainless steel mesh (instead of paper or foam) and a velocity stack (which the Blitz SUS does not use but can be modified to use one from an HKS Super Mega Flow). I proceded to remove the stock filter and install the HKS in the stock box. Results after repeated dyno pulls: 8-9HP
(T1R and filter combined). Since the filter is all metal construction (except the velocity stack) I was concerned with heat soak but have not experienced it yet and this includes many miles of city driving in rush hour and I am extremly happy with the improved acceleration.
Filter cost: $103.00. Probably adding a spoon snorkel and hondata gasket will help me net more gains. By the way, left over filters are still available through the internet. Just my 2 cents

The AEM intakes are good and have pretty reproducable results B-U-T you do run the very real risk of hydrolock when using them. IMO, 5rwhp (at best) is not a big enough trade-off for a 10K dollar motor (parts and install).

I'd bet that more than half or your rwhp gain are from the test pipe.
Peace

as stated in my response, the T1R testpipe netted .7-1 hp on repeated dyno pulls.combined effect netted 8-9hp.

If so, I think its worth posting the dyno sheets
(1) stock
(2) T1R (stock filter)
(3) HKS filter (without pipe)
(4) HKS and pipe
-something is not right with what you're saying.
BTW, I'm not flamming you, just trying to figure this out b/c it goes against a lot of what I've seen/experienced with test pipes and filters.

ummm ok. Well, if that is really the case, then something is REALLY wrong with your test pipe. Seriously, you should be making much more that 1rwhp from a test pipe. Second, do you really believe that you got 7rwhp from a filter?

Car dynoed stock 197 HP.
two weeks later car dynoed 197.7-198 Hp with the testpipe and 205.5-206.7 by adding the HKS filter. having a mechanical Engineerin background I expected more fron the testpipe and thought the filter was not letting the testpipe reduced backpressure live to its full potential, so I replaced the stock filter with the best flowing one I have come upon, and belive me I have experience with the best flowing filters the market has to offer and this is the best, with the modified Blitz SUS a neck behind. Remenber this is not a kit, just an universal drop in filter.
Yes the 7 additional HP wre fron the combined effect, not the filter alone.
I do realize than I may gain 1-2HP more with the V2 o J's. But costwise, my set-up is probably the best bang fo the buck there is and I don't have to worry about hydrolock.
Like I said in my edited post....no flame intended.
How about some pics and specs?
Also, are you changing your oil more frequently? Usually, free flowing= more dirt particles (depending on the filter type...isn't the HKS a Foam filter?)
