to s2k or not to s2k?
Right now im tryna decide what to get as my first car in a few months. I want to have fun driving around and be able to race my friends, maybe some official racing later. What ive been considering so far is either getting a mid priced roadster and hooking it up (body kit/rims/tires/shocks/engine work...), getting a fairly cheap coupe and making it into an insane fire-breathing 9 second monster, or getting a pretty nice sports car with light mods. Now obviously all have different purposes but really the point is for me to be able to have fun getting to wherever I need to go. If I got a roadster itd be a new s2000, the fire-breather would start off as a used supra, and the nice car would be a used nsx. Anyway my dilema is that if I got either the s2000 or the supra Id probably only keep it untill (if) the nissan skyline gtr R35 came to the US, maybe a few years after (if I really liked my current car) because that is the best reasonably priced sports car on the entire planet. I really want to import an R34 now but f*ck the motorex fee. If I got the nsx Id keep it for a while cause its hot already and I shouldnt be spending all my money on the grt while im in college (other stuff to worry about like rent, food, traveling).
Anyway my questions are: Do you think ill still want to sell the s2000 after driving it for a while? Will they still be holding their resale values as well in '03/'04? How do they take the snow? How do the tops take a little snow/prolonged exposure to the cold weather? Any other cars you like to reccomend/why? Ive been considering: rx7, 3000gt, old boxster, old slk, itr, old m3, 993 and I think the ones I named before are the best choices. I realize that I may need to get a cheap suv or something for the snow but thats gonna be hard because Ill be spending almost all my money on the first car. The car might still have to stay outside in the winter cause theres not much garage space left... I could use one of those funny looking bubble things lol. Anyway when the gtr hits both of them are goin and ill be livin it up in awd godzilla luxury.
Of course I could go the other (more practical/boring) route and get something like the clk, c coupe, s4, is300, wrx, range rover 4.0... But hey im gonna be spending more money than I should and I have to live with the choice for a while so I want to make sure im 99% satisfied (100% = tricked out gtr
).

I recommend NOT getting the S2000 or supra as your first car. I suggest instead taking a 3 day race driving school first and then decide. These cars will get you in trouble and fast. The S2000 will drive to 95% of its capabilities then just let go with no notice what so ever. Unless you have extensive RWD experience in powerful cars and/or an SCCA race licence like you get at a racing school there is a better chance than not these cars will be coffins on wheels. These cars are way too much to handle for most untrained drivers.
With 16 years of driving experience I myself have done a few donuts on my S2000 but never on the street.

I plan on taking a couple of multi-session racing courses after I get used to my car a little bit. Since the instructors instruct at whatever level the student is on I want to atleast be familiar with the car so I dont pay for a course (these things are expensive) and spend the whole time learning the vehicle. Although lots of places offer their own cars (mustangs, 911s, etc), I think I would rather learn with my own.
Don't let the boss scare you. This is my first manual, I've messed up once, and it's taught me to be more careful.
This is my first car out of college. First manual car. I also have a daily driver. Snow is rarely an issue in Seattle. If I was to contend with snow and/or I didn't have another car to drive around, I wouldn't have gotten this car. I would've gone the S4 route.
Good luck.
