I'm really paranoid as well. I always park in an end spot, at all costs. The car is garage kept. I wouldn't have even considered buying it if it had to be left out all the time. And yes I worry about it when its parked and I can't see it. But you just have to click the lock button, and pray it says safe until you return.

I would be curious to know where and when most S2ks are stolen? An if they were inside or out.
I am the type that typically takes it out during the day and when I will be in and out from somewhere, 30 min type trips.

You also have to think that theifs need to be in the area or know that the car is always going to be parked at said location be it your work or home.

I dont think that many will jack a car in the middle of the day from the mall parking lot but I could be wrong and it could also just be the area I am in.

Thoughts, comments.

I can tell you I am paranoid to go on date and movie at night with the car. They know if you are in the movies you are a sitting duck for 1-2 hours..........

I don't lose sleep over it either... my garage is directly underneath my bedroom.

There is nothing more comforting than knowing your S2000 is sitting in your garage with a high end motion sensor covertly perched in the rafters above it, tied into a light circuit in your bedroom. If the light comes on in your bedroom, the thief can't see it but you can see the cabinet easily to grab your 12 gauge! I love my homemade alarm setup.

I used to own an '02 Z06, and I never gave it a second thought. Daily drove it for 4 years everywhere (bars, downtown, parked on a driveway etc). The only incident I ever had was once when it was dirty someone drew a huge penis on the driver's side door when I came out from a bar. Other than that, it was all good.

When I had my AP1, the only thing I ever worried about were the seats, but that was 2004. But with my current S2000, I'm super paranoid. Times have changed, and I'm worried about the AP2 being stripped completely for parts. Luckily it's garaged and it's mainly a weekend/good weather car, so its exposure is limited.

I live in a small rural town, so I don't really worry about it. It was big news when some kids spray painted some words on my neighbors garage, so that is about it as far as major crimes go around here. I keep my AP1 in the garage, but I am sure I could park it outside on the street with the top down for days on end and nothing would happen to it. My base model F150 (V6, no A/C) is more likely get stolen around here.

I truly feel very sorry for the bulk of you guys... I would DESPISE living with that much paranoia day to day... I DD the car, when I was in college i left it in the college parking lot every day, and commuted to philadelphia twice a week for AFROTC where I left it parallel parked on the street for hours and hours on end, I was parked outside at home too, often with the top down if weather was nice... Never once stressed about it. I autox it all the time, its got a few dings and scratches due to that, but nothing serious. and I don't worry, she still looks great from more than 2 feet away. I now leave it in the same parking lot at work (military base) where our Durango got broken into, and I still don't sweat it...

I take proper precautions such has hiding valuables and locking the car and such. I also care a lot for the car and take very good care of it. At the end of the day however, its just property, and property (especially insured property) is just not worth getting paranoid over unless its irreplaceable.

Drive the car you want and deal with any situation that may occur. We aren't fortune tellers and it's a sorta " what will be will be". Be mindful of where you park is probably as much as you can do to safeguard any car you may have. Worst case- the car is stolen. The savior is insurance. If you really loved the car you can now buy another one.
