FWIW I drove a set of S2k rear tires 21k miles (the fronts went over 30), rain, snow ... etc. Never an issue. Know when to drive fast, when to apply power, how to brake, what distances to take ...

Thanks!

Repeat after me: "I am going to sell my S2000 now because I make the general S2000 driver populace look like dumbasses."
I'm not knocking on you diva, but just want to point something out with what you posted there.

I for one appreciate anyone who makes a mistake behind the wheel and posts to tell about it - we can all use a "reality check" from time to time - no matter how experienced we think we are.

Is the S2000 dangerous in the rain? NO - as long as you have proper equipment (tires, alignment, etc.) and play it safe behind the wheel. Know that the S2000 is a light weight vehicle and if you add that with worn summer performance tires you're asking for a little hydroplane action. Also know that the S2000 is setup to wear the inner portion of your tires first (negative camber), so if you don't physically look underneath your car to view your tires, you're really just fooling yourself thinking your tires are in good shape.

I say this from experience - I totalled a Prelude by holding out on tires for next month's state inspection (I knew they were bad). It was raining, and I thought I was being smart just doing 5 MPH over the speed limit - much slower than traffic (knowing my tires were almost done), then hit a patch of water on the interstate and would have been in incoming traffic if it weren't for the Jersey Wall.

Just play it safe.....especially now.....we're coming into the "Wrecked S2000" - I mean Winter season.

This is a very mature thing to post up and I applaud you for doing so.

Everyone, please note that at NO time has the author of this thread indicated that he blamed the car or the tires. It is OTHERS who have posted subsequently who have placed blame on the machinery, the weather, the road conditions, etc.

Drizzle, you should not take offense at the responses to those posts where blame was cast upon the tires, etc, because those were not directed at you. You've been pretty damn good about all of this throughout. May you and yours have a complete and successful recovery.
Thank you Xviper.

I know that it was my fault and not once have I blamed this on anyone or anything else. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thank you for that comment RE: my recovery

Drizzle (strange user name under the circumstances),

Please consider this a public service announcement. I would like to know the type of tires you have on the car (both F & R). Also the sizes. This might help others when they need to choose new tires.

Also, if you're concerned that you might have problems with insurance regarding the "tires worn" comment by the cop. If you are certain that your tires were in good condiditon, I'd go back and take some photos with a tire tread depth gauge for your records.

I am relieved that you're ok, that crash looks pretty bad!
Strange name eh?

I'm really not sure what type of tires they were off the top. All I know is that Honda had purchased them for me.

I have yet to see the car since the accident, but I am positive the rear tires weren't worn. They were fairly new. And from the pictures I have posted I think it is pretty noticeable that there is tread still on the rears.

I agree, I should take a few closer pictures just for the insurance..

anyhow, glad your okay and don't think that you are a bad driver due to this accident because a lot of us have lost control in our S at one time or another. you just totalled yours and posted the story while most of us
Sure, you can buy em.

Thanks, I am glad we're OK too.

I did post for a reason. I am not ashamed of what I did, so I thought i'd share it with others to hear all of your opinions.

Thank you all once again.

[QUOTE=Kodokan_4,Sep 27 2005, 05:48 PM]This response is almost as ridiculous as the title of this thread:

Glad to hear you're okay. Any other considerations for replacing the S2000 besides the Audi?
Dang, is the Audi really THAT bad of a car.

Everyone seems to have something to say about my choice.

Do any of you have any other suggestions on a car?

Off topic: Whats so bad about an Audi?

And this is a nice story, too. Why would you blame the car when you're hitting VTEC on an on ramp, in the rain? That's just stupid.

Exactly.

There are people whose foolishness is so extense they will say anything to justify an accident caused by bad judgement, ignorance, etc.

There simply is no good justification for losing control of a well maintained S2K while driving in the rain other than doing something you shouldn't be doing in the first place.

I think it's embarrassing to have to read about a guy who looped his car while turning from a dead stop in the rain or another who hit VTEC on a highway onramp in the rain and that they both blame the car.

It is not surprising to see this however as day by day we live in a society that is less and less prone to being accountable for their own actions. Everthing is always someone else's fault!

The other thing that gets me laughing are folks who think their S is something of a wild child like a Shelby Cobra or an early 911. Those were "twitchy" cars.

Stop driving like a dork in the rain and you won't chrash. Period.

if honda put mismatching front and rear tires or wrong sized rear tires, you might have some recourse.
