S2K vs. Boxster S
Why do you prefer the S2000 to the Boxster S?
I look for overall balance in the garage. No doubt the Boxster S is a great car, but it is more "in between" than at one end or the other.

This is such a funny thread...
You guys are comparing 2 cars that aren't even in the same price range....however, I've driven both and I like the way the S2k drives. I really didn't like the Porsche, nor do I like that vibe most not all, most Boxster owners act. Its a Boxster... its no 911 turbo, or a GT2.
I raced my share of Boxsters, from a rolling start on the highway and I don't think I lost once. I think it comes down to the drivers between these cars. There both nice cars.
However when the S2K came out, when it went against the Boxster the S2k was a much better car, for all the reasons mentioned here, price, performance, reliablity,...etc etc... The Boxster S was a little better but not worth the money, unless you need the name plate to make up for other things missing
or you felt like paying through the nose for some dealer work... $200 oil change
If I was given a Boxster or a Boxster S for free I would trade either one in for an S2k everytime. But that's me and my opinion. Which as it turns out means nothing to anyone except me. I know plenty of people that like the Boxster better,... and you know what... that's fine with me.
Its your money buy whatever one you like.

On the racetrack, it's really hard to beat the handling of a mid-engine vehicle. I hate to admit it, but I've witnessed many a vehicle getting passed by Porsche's ugly duckling 914. My experience with the 928's and 944's I've driven, and probably also the 968's and Boxster's that I haven't had an opportunity to drive, is that they are some of the most forgiving vehicles to drive. That's not true with the earlier 911s, but they are still good handling vehicles. Boxster maintenance costs probably are more on average than the S2000. I wouldn't go so far as to say that a Porsche is lower quality, like someone did earlier in the thread. My 1986 model 928S that I traded in on my S had 227,000 miles and the doors still shut perfectly. They have never been adjusted since it had been in my family (owned since 73,000 miles). It would still charge up to 145mph+ on the interstate. The pistons have never been re-ringed. I can only hope that the S holds up as well.
Porsches are more maintenance intensive, but a precision machine requires precision maintenance.
