If the S2000 had never been invented, I'd probably have bought (or still be considering) the Boxster S. A friend at work has one, and it's a nice, nice car.

That said, I am sooooo glad I got the S. Not only for the car, but for the community too. Plus, Boxsters are everywhere; Ss (at least in my neck of the woods) are quite rare.

OK so the boxster is faster. so what? They're both good car. Enjoy it.

Next I'm going to cry about how the modena spyder is faster than the S2000?

well it's just my opinion....i believe boxster S is faster than S2000 on a drag or road course. I give the S2000 the nod over the boxster though....unless it's the new boxster (is that even out yet?), then it should be pretty close....
I believe that the Boxster S is a lot more forgiving than the S2000, and also easier to drive faster (what car isn't?). However, earlier variants of the Boxster S were certainly no faster on a drag strip or a roadcourse than the S2000, provided that they were both in capable hands. The 260hp Boxster S, I think is faster than the S2000 by a noticeable margin, but again its closer than one would expect. The new 280hp Boxster S is most definitely going to be out of reach for the S2K however.

What it comes down to it, 3.2-6 or 2.0/2.2-4 they can not be compared. You want power heated seats or sport seats. If they were both Porsche's or both Honda's would people compare them? I have guys in STR-4's try to race me, and I always ask them " you want to race your 2.4 TURBO against my 2.2 N/A you think thats fair" Get real guys... thats my two cents.....

Observation from an asshole with a lot of money:

Everyone who can barely afford the S2000 brings up how the S2000 is close to the performance of the Boxster S for thousands less. (Note, those who are uninformed often try to claim the Boxster S is "even" with the S2000, which is not the case).

When shown that the Boxster S is the superior vehicle, the money card is first to be thrown, the reliability card second and the "but my car is more rare" (did you ever stop to think why?) card is always thrown out last.

Hold on now. I can afford the Boxster S. Does that make it the obvious choice? The fact that a very fun, competent, and comparable (though clearly not equal) car is available at almost half the price is hard to overlook.

I'm not beyond convincing, though. So Steve, as someone who owns a Porsche and an S2000, do you think that the Boxster S is really twice the car, specifically for someone who doesn't care about heated seats (and other high-end "luxuries").

Well Steve I must be a little different then. I have driven both cars and could afford either. When it came right down to it I liked the S2000 more. I'm not saying the Porsche was less car, it just wasn't as appealing to me at the time. Unfortunately it still isn't.
I bought the Honda for 4 reasons.
1) It reminded me of a motorcycle engine in the way it builds power and revs and after my last accident on a bike, I won't have another.
2) I knew it would be more dependable and much less costly to repair than the Porsche.
3) I couldn't see the reason for such a price difference between the two cars.
4) I hate to lump folks together but just about every Porsche owner I have ever met was an overbearing pompous asshole and I didn't want people to jump to the conclusion that I was also.
Meet me first and then you'll know I'm an asshole but at least this way it takes a few seconds!

Reminds me of when I used to autocross my Miata with the North Jersey Porsche club. Noone would say a word to me until they saw that I was running faster times than half the street tire'd 911's and Boxsters there. Then it was the typical, "What do you have done to that thing?". Should of seen their face when I said, "Nothing. It's stock.".

It's very ignorant to assume someone can't afford something. Not being able to afford something and choosing not to spend the money on it are two different things.
